    in pouch
  • Held in the childs arms or placed on a surface
  • Touch screen children use stylus to click on
    items

Consultation and feedback
  • Pilot sessions with a local school
  • Positive feedback from teachers and pupils
  • INSET day for teachers to highlight the offer and
    gain feedback
  • - positive feedback and suggestions - a few
    changes were made to improve the trails
  • - resulted in teachers booking for sessions

Sessions
  • Free sessions for KS2 pupils, aimed at years 5
    and 6 (funding requires as many year 6 classes as
    possible)
  • Held at Weston Park Museum,
  • Sheffield
  • Session lasts approximately
  • 2 hours

  • Children work in
  • mixed ability groups
  • of three per PC,
  • with one adult to
  • one/two groups,
  • following
  • a trail around
  • the museum

  • Custom made, unique trails made using Macromedia
    Flash Player
  • Two trails Ancient Egyptians
  • -- Animal adaptation
  • Cross curricular ICT and either history or
    science

  • Children record answers
  • by typing or recording
  • audio responses
  • suitable for childrens
  • different abilities and skills
  • Childrens work is uploaded to an online blog and
    saved to a CD to be accessed back at school or at
    home
  • If wanted, children can create a presentation or
    tour to bring family members and friends back to
    the museum

UMPC Activities
  • Activities include
  • - doing drag and drop exercises
  • - watching videos
  • - looking closely at/looking for objects to
    answer questions (children have an allocated
    amount of time where they have to look at the
    objects)
  • playing games
  • The activities are all completed using the stylus
    and touch screen or Qwerty keyboard

The future
  • Sessions are already booked, hopefully more
    bookings will follow
  • Project runs until June 2008 with a view to renew
    it for another year after this time
  • Possibility of extending offer to family and
    community groups
