18
Conference themeCommunication and Citizenship
Paradoxal moment in our common history
  • Deep economic and moral crisis, acceleration of
change, globalization of fear and uncertainty,
    simultaneous fragmentation and interdependence.
  • Also a time of hope and opportunity (citizens are
    rediscovering new forms of participation,
    developing new practices, circunventing old
regimes and modalities (not just in the media and
    communication sphere).

19
Conference themeCommunication and Citizenship
So, we would like to pay particular attention
  • To citizens' participation - attempts to develop
    responsible and accountable media cultures.
  • To critical and participative attitude regarding
    traditional and new media
  • To social exigency regarding media professionals'
    training, media professionals' deontological
codes, media company's strategies and state
    policies.

20
Conference themeCommunication and Citizenship
  • We believe that communication and media research
might perform a fundamental role interrogating
the dominant communication models and opening up
new debates on citizens empowering and
    participatory mechanisms.
  • This could be the contribution of the
communication scientific community to shed light
    on contemporary uncertainties and deadlocks.
  • Focusing on the relationship between
    Communication and Citizenship we invite
researchers to develop research also as citizens.

21
ThemeVisual identity
  • We are working on solutions which illustrate an
    inter-linked/inter-dependent world (unified even
if not united) changing at record speed and
    marked by uncertainty and fragmentation.
  • At the same time, we intend to graphically
highlight the C letter as it stands for
Communication and Citizenship (as well as Crisis
and Change) in the IAMCR official languages...and
    in Portuguese.
