    has been accepted in 2006 and they are the same
    in whole Finland
  • The curriculum is not same in all schools
  • Learning outcomes are based on students own
    capacity and earlier experiences and teacher /
    tutor are supporting her /him to reach the goals

Clinical Education
  • 75 ECTS 50 weeks in clinical practice
  • 1,5 ECTS or 1 week means 40 hours students work
    2000 hours
  • Placements
  • Health centres 1st year
  • Private clinics
  • Central hospitals
  • University Hospitals

Steering in practice
  • 1. Mentor / Tutor
  • Radiographers
  • Some have short education concerning teaching,
    steering and assessment
  • Each student has a personal tutor during clinical
    practice
  • Tutors have annual meetings with teachers in each
    geographical area

  • Approves the aims for the clinical practice

  • Some big hospitals have clinical tutor who
    initiates to the hospital and departments

Arrangements
  • The placement is made by the teacher
  • JobStep is in use more and more (electronic
    system where hospital are registered and student
    make the choice teacher approves)
  • Length of one period varies from 2 up to 9 weeks
    on same department

  • Students choose one area and takes more clinical
    practice and theory in that area e.g. CT, Therapy
    etc.
  • Students are working in different hospitals all
    over Finland
  • Possible also do it abroad
  • Few ECTS are performed in labs in the University

Assessment
  • Usually there is first theory and then practice
  • Student plans her /his own goals based on those
    in curriculum paying attention to her earlier
    experiences
  • Students start there portfolio during the first
    year, carry on as studies go on and send it
    always before the clinical period to the staff

Assessment.
  • Feedback is given all the time by the tutors
  • Tests in practice patients cases or real
    situations
  • Also the teacher is working with the student and
    gives feedback, if possible
  • If the placement is far away the phone is in use
  • More and more also e-mail and platform e.g WebCT
    are in use

  • Student writes or gives first evaluation
  • How the goals were reached
  • How theory and practice were combined
  • Student, tutor radiographer and teacher are
    discussing together usually in the beginning of
    the period and in the end
  • Student writes a reflective diary
  • The course is passed or failed

  • Students hope that teachers should be more in
    clinical practice
  • Clinical staff agrees that

  • Changes in attitudes are needed to find new ways
    to work in practice
  • e.g. workflow in digital imaging and archiving
  • New techniques and procedures
  • New areas
  • How the students can make the change?(we always
    have done this way this is our habit)
  • Benchmarking and audits are needed
  • Evidence based learning
