    textbook Physiologic Basis of Surgery, 4th
    Edition by J.P. OLeary
  • Multiple choice written quiz after each session
  • Fifty question final examination given at end of
    year

Surgery Oral Examinations
  • Initiated in 1979
  • Designed to prepare residents for the oral
    portion of the Board Certification
  • PGY 3s 4s receive their oral exam once a year
    each year throughout the residency experience.
  • PGY 5s are examined twice in their last year.
  • Each resident is examined by teaching physicians
    from hospitals other than their own to help
    ensure objective evaluations.
  • The examinations are used to determine strengths
    and deficiencies at various levels of training
    and to identify aspects to be strengthened in a
    particular training program.

    prepare for the ABS Qualifying and Certifying

  • Participants are the top three winners of clinic
    day competition in each of the full member
    hospitals.
  • Over 20 papers are presented (expanded 2009 to
    include poster competition)
  • Four judges from area universities MSU,UM, WSU,
    and OU
  • The papers are judged on originality, quality of
    research, and effectiveness of presentation
