DACVP, Director of the Coalition
Funded Training Positions
Introduction
Interactions Between Sponsors and Fellows
The ACVP/STP Coalition for Veterinary Pathology
Fellows is a joint educational initiative between
the American College of Veterinary Pathologists
(ACVP) and the Society of Toxicologic Pathology
(STP) to provide a unified mechanism to solicit
and allocate funds to train veterinary
pathologists. The Coalition partners industrial
sponsors with North American universities who
apply for funded positions on a competitive
basis. Sponsors support 3-years of residency
training in either anatomic or clinical
pathology, or post-residency PhD graduate study.
Following completion of training, Fellows have no
pay-back obligation other than to complete the
ACVP certification examination and/or PhD degree
and become employed as veterinary pathologists.
The inaugural class of 8 Fellows will complete
their fellowships in 2009.
- The Coalition is interested not only to fund new
training positions, but also to ensure on-going
interactions between sponsors and participating
training institutions which enhances Fellows
training. Examples of these interactions
include - Annual externships by Fellows at their sponsors
site - Appointment of industrial mentors with special
faculty appointments at the respective training
institution - Coalition Scientific Conferences at ACVP and STP
annual meetings, during which time Fellows
present results of their training, and
representatives from academia and industry
present issues of mutual interest
