8Acceptance to the Program
- After reviewing all portfolios and ranking
candidates by points, we will contact everyone
that has been accepted. - All acceptance is conditional, meaning a
conditionally accepted candidates spot could be
forfeited if she or he does not meet the
requirements. - We will also choose a number of alternate
candidates. Alternate candidates are ranked
according to the point system and offered a place
if a conditionally accepted candidate declines or
forfeits her or his spot. We may offer a spot to
an alternate as late as the first week of the
beginning semester for the program. An alternate
candidates spot could be forfeited if she or he
does not meet the requirements. - We also send letters to those candidates not
chosen for the program. - Here are a few of the issues that will result in
a forfeit regardless of point standing - A candidate turned in an incomplete or late
portfolio. - A candidate did not pass or complete one of the
required general education courses by the
deadline. - A candidate did not update the Rad Tech program
or Ivy Tech with current contact information if
we cannot contact you, we cannot accept you into
the program. - A candidate did not meet the requirements after
being conditionally accepted (we will outline any
requirements in the acceptance letters). - Acceptance, alternate, and denial letters are
sent by March 1st.

13Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)
- Cost 35 payable at the Business Office.
- It is recommended that you schedule your TEAS
test with Terre Haute Testing Center online at
http//www.goivytech.net/cgi-bin/ureserve_gold.pl
to guarantee an open computer (when you schedule
online, you MUST schedule it 48 hrs ahead of
time). You can walk-in but you MUST begin the
TEAS test before 100 pm whether you schedule it
online or walk-in. - Bring receipt to Testing Center when you come in
to take your test. The Testing Center cannot
allow anyone to take the TEAS without a receipt
showing payment. - We recommend scores of 70 above in Math,
Science, English, and Writing. - You must wait 30 days between re-tests. Each time
you take the test you must pay 35 at the
Business Office again. - You can re-take up to three times in two years.
- We will accept prior TEAS test scores if they are
under one year old. - If you are taking the TEAS at a campus other than
Terre Haute, please contact that campus for their
guidelines on paying for and taking the test. - Use the Evaluation Grid to record your TEAS
scores in the Math, Science, English, and Writing
portions. Place a decimal between numbers to get
your points (ex a 82 on the Math section is
worth 8.2 pts). - Resources for preparing to take the TEAS test are
available online (search for or Google TEAS
test). The 7th Edition Bookstore at the Terre
Haute campus offers a TEAS study guide for
purchase.
14Using the Evaluation Grid
- This needs to be completed by you and added to
your portfolio. - ENGL 111, HLHS 101, APHY 101, and MATH 111 need
to be completed by end of Fall 2008 semester.
These are the courses that are totaled for points
on the Evaluation Grid using the instructions
(ex an A in APHY 101 Anatomy Physiology I
is worth 8 points). - The rest of the general education courses need
to be completed with a passing grade by end of
Spring 2009 semester. (MATH 131, 133, and 137 are
acceptable substitutes for MATH 136) - Test outs and advanced placements will receive a
grade of B (ex. you successfully test out of
MATH 111 you will receive 7 points for a B
grade). - Your scores from the TEAS test are also
calculated on the Evaluation Grid. If you
receive a 72 in English, that translates to 7.2
points on the English portion of the TEAS. - Total your points from ENGL 111, APHY 101, HLHS
101, MATH 111, and your TEAS test scores. You are
ranked according to those total points. We also
take overall GPA into consideration if your
points are the same as another candidates.
15Transcripts
- Include in your portfolio transcript(s) from Ivy
Tech and any other colleges you may have attended
unofficial is fine. - You can obtain a copy of your Ivy Tech transcript
through Campus Connect. - If your Ivy Tech transcript show letter grades
for the classes you transferred in, you do not
need to include a transcript from the other
college. If it shows courses transferred in but
no letter grades, you will have to obtain
official or unofficial transcripts showing the
grade you received. - The transcripts are to verify that you did
receive the grades shown on your Evaluation
Grid and/or that you received passing grades in
any of the other required courses.

19FAQ
- Q When does the program start?
- A The program begins every Fall semester.
- Q How hard is it to get into the Rad Tech
program? - A Entrance into the program is competitive. We
receive anywhere from 150-300 applicants every
year. - Q How many students do you accept every year?
- A That depends on how many clinical spots are
available. For example, if we have 36 clinical
spots, we will accept 36 students. Generally, we
accept 30-36 students. - Q What if I have applied to the program in the
past, does that affect my status? - A No. Your current status when applying is not
affected by past application to the program.
However, you are required to repeat the entire
application process each time you apply and you
must still meet all the requirements laid out in
the current application packet as the application
process may change. - Q I have all of my general education
requirements done. If I dont take any classes
the semester or year before the program begins,
will that affect my standing? - A No. As long as you have met all the general
education requirements, you can apply to the
program without being enrolled in classes. - Q I already have a degree, will that help my
chances? - A All of the potential candidates must complete
the same application process and be ranked by
points regardless of former education.
20FAQcontinued
- Q I have re-taken a general education course,
will that affect my standing? - A We understand that various factors can cause a
low grade in any given class so we do not
penalize you for re-taking a class. If you
re-taken a class more than once, however, that
may affect your standing. - Q I want to also apply to another campuses Rad
Tech program. Will that affect my standing here? - A No. Applying to another Rad program or another
program altogether (ex LPN or Surgical
Technology) does not affect your application
standing in any way. Many of our candidates apply
to other programs as well as ours. - Q I have to take MATH 050, how will that affect
me? - A MATH 050 is a required prerequisite for both
MATH 111 and APHY 101. This means that MATH 050
will have to be completed with a C or higher by
the end of the Summer semester so that the MATH
111 and APHY 101 classes can be completed by the
end of the Fall semester. For example, if you
were applying to the 2009 program, you would have
to complete MATH 050 in the 2008 Summer semester
in order to take MATH 111 and APHY 101 in the
2008 Fall semester to meet the required
deadlines. - You can try to test out of MATH 050 by re-taking
the Math portion of the COMPASS test. Contact the
Testing Center for more information. - Q Can my parents or spouse check on my
application status, grades, etc? - A No. Due to privacy reasons, we can not release
that information to anyone but the student unless
the student has signed a form giving us express
permission to do so.
21FAQcontinued
- Q Cant I just start taking the Rad classes? Why
do I have to go through the application process? - A Since we cannot accept more students than we
have clinical spots available and we receive
roughly 5-6 times that number in applications, we
have to have a process to determine which
students we accept. Another reason for the
application process is the general education
classes are pre-requisites for some of the Rad
classes. Therefore, you must have those
pre-requisites done before beginning the program
and, due to the intensiveness of the program, it
is extremely difficult to take general education
courses once youve been accepted to the program. - Q How many students actually finish the program?
- A That number varies from class to class.
Generally, around 75 of the accepted students
will successfully complete the program. - Q What is the registry exam? Do I have to take
it? How many of the Rad Tech students pass it? - A The registry exam is national exam taken upon
graduation. You have to take and pass the
registry exam to work as a Radiologic
Technologist in the state of Indiana. If you seek
employment in another state, check with the
states Department of Health for their specific
requirements all states require Rad Techs to be
registered but the type of registry exam may
vary. You can re-take the registry if necessary. - Our graduates have a first-time pass rate of
over 90 on the registry (more than 90 of the
graduates pass the registry exam on their first
attempt ).The graduating class of 2008 had a 100
first-time pass rate and the class of 2007 had a
98 first-time pass rate. -
- Q I heard you offer Ultrasound, CT, and Nuclear
Medicine. Can I apply to those programs too? - A At the moment, these programs are only offered
to registered Rad Techs as Career Development
Certificates (CDC). - Q What if a deadline falls on a weekend or
holiday? - A If a deadline falls on a weekend or holiday,
the deadline will be extended to the following
business day (ex. If January 2nd falls on a
Saturday, we will accept portfolios on the
following Monday ).
