Evaluation of Meso-NH in  Operational
Mode Conclusion
  • Encouraging results using Meso-NH in operational
    mode during CERES
  • ? Dry and warm bias at low level in the
morning to be analysed (ALADIN role to be
    confirmed)
  • ? this bias is reduced during the day (role
of the boundary layer development and
    surface processes?)
  • ? Satisfactory simulation of the BL height
at La Cape Sud and its regional variation
  • ? Meso-NH proved very useful for the
operations planning during CERES (Height of CO2
flask sampling, choice of aircraft flights,
    Lagrangian trajectories)

10
The CNRM Modelling program during CERES
  • Aims
  • ? Atmospheric CO2 modelling in interaction with
the surface coupling Meso-NH atmospheric CO2
with CO2 surface flux from ISBA-A-gs
  • -gt To improve surface-atmosphere exchanges
    coupling water and carbon cycles
  • -gt To improve ABL modelling (vertical mixing,
    entrainment)
  • -gt To estimate the regional budget of atmospheric
    CO2
  • -gt To collaborate to CO2 sources and sinks
    retrieval from CO2 concentrations (collaboration
with Ceres partners, LSCE, ( T. Louvaux PhD),
    Uni. Amsterdam, MPI, )

11
The CNRM Modelling program during CERES
  • Strategy
  • Implementation of CO2 in MesoNH-Isba-A-gs for
    Ceres
  • ? Large scale forcing and initialisation of
CO2 with LMDZ sensitivity to large scale
forcing and to the spatio-temporal resolution of
    LMDZ
  • ? Anthropogenic emissions from GENEMIS
    database
  • ? New vegetation classification Ecoclimap
    South-West (Champeaux et al. 05)
  • Modelling program
  • ? further calibration of Isba A- gs for
    Ceres (0-D and 1-D)
  • ? 1-D simulations analysis of the ABL-Surface
interactions and entrainment for IOP with weak
    winds,
  • ? 3-D runs at 8 km resolution for all IOPs
    sensitivity to initialisation (Arpege, Aladin,
ECMWF), sensitivity to surface processes versus
    advection, first guess for inversion,
  • ? 3-D runs, 2 ways nesting at high resolution
    2.5 km for selected days 27may, 1june, 6june,
    22june,
  • ? CO2 budgets analysis

    vs. summer crops)
  • Land-cover map processed from Corine 2000 and
    VEGETATION NDVI
  • (Champeaux et al. 2005)
  • Soon available for the CERES database
  • ? Classification of 62 vegetation classes for
    CERES domain (SW)
  • NDVI profiles decadal from 1999 to 2003 and
  • from may
    to june 2005
  • ? Mean NDVI profiles for 62 vegetation classes
