What is the Jersey Devil?

• The Jersey Devil has been seen by over 2000
  witnesses in the past 260 years.
• It has terrorized many towns and people.
• Many people believe that it is a legend or a
  mythical beast.

Where is Jersey?

• New Jersey is in America.
• All the sightings happened in
• this state.

The theories of its birth

• An area in New Jersey is nicknamed Leeds Point. A
  legend says that a Mrs. Shrouds of L.P. made a
  wish that if she ever had another child she
  wanted it to be a devil.
• A young girl fell in love with a British solider
  and when she gave birth, she had a devil child.
• When Mrs. Leeds found out that she was pregnant
  with her 13th child, she shouted
• I hope its a devil. The child was born with
  horns, a tail, wings and a horse-like head.

The sightings of the devil

• In the 19th century a man saw a strange creature
  flying across the sky.
• In 1840 many sheep and chickens were killed by a
  monster. A piercing scream could be heard.
• In 1909 he was seen by over 1000 witnesses and
  this was his largest appearance ever.
• A man saw the J.D. flying down the street and
  many people saw and heard the devil. The people
  found hoof prints in the snow. The prints went up
  trees, from roof to roof and they disappeared in
  the middle of the road.

• New Jersey
• One day Mr. and Mrs. Nelson were awakened by a
  strange noise. They saw the devil from their
  window for 10 minutes. Mr. Nelson described the
  creature It was about three feet high, with a
  head like a Collie dog and a face like a horse.
  It had a long neck, wings about two feet long,
  its back legs like those of a crane and it had
  horse hooves. It walked on its back legs and held
  up two short front legs. It didnt use the front
  legs at all while we were watching. My wife and I
  were scared, I told you, but then the creature
  turned around barked at me and flew away.

The theories

• One theory is that the J.D. is a bird. Some
  people think that it is a duck.
• Others believe that it is a crane. But this
  theory doesnt explain the killing of sheep.

Our opinion

• We think that the Jersey Devil could just be a
  deformed animal that has human traits.
