Size and Appearance

• Males weight 850 pounds
• length 8 feet long
• Females weight 250 pounds
• length 6 ½ feet long
• thick layer of blubber
• Short, thick fur
• Dark brown/ light brown in color
• Whiskers help with sense of touch

Habitat

• Lives in cool waters
• On the Rocky coast of western North America

Diet

• Carnivores (meat eaters)
• Fish, squid, crabs and lobsters

Predators

• Hunted by Killer Whales (Orcas)
• Some Sharks

Interesting Facts

• They dont chew food but swallow it in large
  chunks
• Nostrils close when resting
• Make roaring noises ( thats how it got its
  name)
• Fast swimmers (25 miles/hour)
• Fast on land (walks on all four flippers)
• Good eyesight
• No color vision
