Why focus on Youth Employment?- World
Population has reached 6 billion- Over the
next 3 decades, global labour force between ages
of 15 24 will increase by 1.2 billion- Out
of 6 billion people, 1.3 billion live on less
than US1 a day, and 3 billion under US2 a
day- Youth unemployment doubles and sometime
triples adult unemployment rates in developing
countries- One of the worlds greatest
challenge is generating productive work
opportunities for young people esp. in developing
countries and enhancing skills level of youth in
developed countries.

How are YES Networks Structured?- YES Networks
typically are housed by a lead agency, -
Lead by a national coordinator appointed
through consensus of members of the
coalition.- Host/Lead Agencies are
institutions that are willing to commit
administrative, secretarial and other resources
to support the daily functioning of networks
and includes. Host agencies are typically youth
related NGOs but there are cases of government,
private sector and international

Examples of YES Networks and their work from
around the worldDeveloped and Developing
Countries YES Honduras - Through a key network
member, developed HIV/AIDS education and
youth livelihood programmes with funding
leveraged through USAID. YES Guyana - With
the help of a Peace Corps volunteer attached to
its host agency, expanded Health and Family
Life Education beyond the third form level in
four secondary schools in Georgetown.
Programme has been sustained. YES South
Africa - Through its lead agency, Youth
Development Network and with Support from
Dutch Government provides a regional capacity
building programmes in entrepreneurship to 7
southern African networks YES
Nigeria - Conducted advocacy campaign which
resulted in legislation in Nigeria wich takes
into account the YES Framework for Action as
the basis for government action on youth
employment
