  • BRIEF HISTORY
  • Trident South Africa has a long standing history
and was founded in 1969 under the name Trident
Engineering by Roger Calvert, John Curnick and
Richard Curnick. Colin Willliams joined in 1984
to head up the spare parts division and in 1995
Mike Calvert and Tommy Webster joined to start
Tridents international sales division. Rob Steel
followed in 1997 as technical director. These
shareholders have worked side by side and have
developed Trident into a well established
    engineering concern which services many
prestigious companies both locally and abroad.
  • Trident has also over the years looked to broaden
its product base by acquisition and joint
venture. During the latter part of 1997, Trident
formed a joint venture with Bateman Industrial
Holdings and a license agreement was concluded
with THE GOODMAN EQUIPMENT COMPANY of Chicago
USA, to manufacture and supply the entire Goodman
range of locomotives in Africa. In April 2000
this technology was purchased by Trident and
Trident owned the Goodman Technology for the
entire continent of Africa. The world rights for
the entire range of Eimco Rocker Shovel loaders
were also acquired by Trident in 1997. To further
expand the products range the assets, including
all the intellectual property of Daelian
Engineering was acquired in 1998. In May 2001
Trident purchased the joint venture interests
held by Bateman Industrial Holdings and the name
Trident Engineering was changed to Trident S.A.
  • May 2003 saw a new dawn for Trident when THE
GOODMAN EQUIPMENT COMPANY of Chicago ceased
operations. Trident as ever conscious of the need
to support a considerable delivered base of
equipment decided to acquire the global
manufacturing and distribution rights for all new
Goodman equipment. It did not take Trident long
before an entirely new and very much improved
Goodman loco became available. The Millennium
    Locomotive
  • Trident, to ensure that the vast number of
Locomotives being used in the western hemisphere
continued to be supported, and that any new
requirements were swiftly met, teamed up with
Williams Distribution a veteran mining supply
company based in Akron, Ohio USA. Together with
Williams Trident now provide new and support
    current equipment globally.
  • Trident has since its inception in 1969 played a
major role in industry at large. Today, together
with its new shareholders and dedicated team of
directors and staff, Trident S.A. is poised to
continue its contribution towards the economy of
    our country.
