The rainforest is an amazing place but.

Why do we need the rainforest?

• To protect the worlds plant and animal life
• To prevent flooding
• To slow changes in the climate
• To provide paper for education and communication
• Cleans our air
• Tropical plants provide medicine for cancer

The RainForest has 3 layers

• The Emergent Layer
• The Understory
• The Forest Floor
• Many different kinds of animals are
  characteristic to each layer.

Creatures of the RainForest

Toucans - Emergent Level

• There are 40 kinds-7 inches to over 2 feet
• Noisy-harsh and raspy calls
• Squash fruits and berries
• Also eat small birds and lizards
• Live in holes in trees

Sloth (two-toed) - Canopy Level

• Eats leaves, buds, twigs, fruit and small animals
• does most things upside down
• main protection is camouflage but does have sharp
  claws
• never drinks- licks dewdrops from leaves and gets
  water from the leaves it eats

Orangutan - Understory

• Eats leaves, fruits, young shoots, and sometimes
  bird eggs
• Is about five feet tall when fully grown
• can weigh as much as 400 pounds

Dwarf Tree-Frog - Forest Floor

• Lives among the leaves and plant stems
• it is 3 centimeters in length
• lives in Australia
