This web-based solution for ordering DAPS
services is available at http//www.daps.dla.mil/.
Following the user friendly instructions, you
can design job specifications, submit a document
file, and receive a cost estimate prior to
finalizing your order. You can even
electronically proof a job in progress. When your
print order is completed, DAPS will ship it to
your location or have it ready for pickup at a
convenient DAPS facility. DAPS Online is designed
for our military and government agency customers.

Document Conversion
DAPS is the DODs focal point for document
conversion and our mission is to transition the
DOD to operate with less paper. Through 2002,
DAPS was responsible for converting over 125
million pages of paper documents, engineering
drawings, aperture cards, microfiche, and
microfilm to digital formats. Virtually every
type of document or data continues to be
transformed by DAPS. We capture specific data
and image from each document. that. The captured
data becomes an index which can be simple or
complex depending upon your requirements.

Document Conversion
After converted to a digital format, the
electronic documents are typically stored in
digital repositories managed by DAPS or our
customers returned to customers on CD or
magnetic media or transmitted to file servers at
customer sites. We perform the conversion in many
of our production facilities or outsource the
conversion through our Tech 21 contract.

IETM Interactive Electronic training Manual
EITMs are electronic reproductions of paper
technical manuals that incorporate hypertext
linking to facilitate document navigation across
document collections and databases. IETMs use
multimedia, as well as conventional text and
diagrams, to lead engineers and technicians
through repair or upgrade jobs.
Intelligent PDF IETMs are created at DAPS
Jacksonville.

JOB PERFORMANCE AIDS
Job Performance Aids (JPAs) are the next step in
electronic access to technical manuals, bulletins
and instructions. JPAs capture knowledge in an
easily understandable format to better explain
complex tasks. They supplement traditional
hardcopy technical documentation by displaying
tasks utilizing multimedia components to include,
pictures, diagrams, video, and audio.

NAVY FORMS ON-lINE
Management responsibility for Naval forms has
been transferred from NAVICP, Philadelphia to the
Document Automation Production Service (DAPS),
Philadelphia.The Navy Forms On-line site offers
registered users with online ordering and
download options for the Navy's extensive
collection of forms. Registered users can use
this site to order warehoused specialty forms as
well, using either MILSTRIP or Government Credit
Card. FEDLOG subscriptions are available through
the Navy Forms On-line site.

WEB Design
DAPS designs website documents on the World Wide
Web, consisting of an HTML file and any related
files for scripts and graphics, and often
hyperlinked to other documents on the Web. DAPS
will customize the website to fit your needs
whether large or small and web security is our
specialty.

DAPS is in the business of housing, serving, and
maintaining files for many military websites.
DAPS provides web servers that connect to the
internet and provide easily accessed electronic

Customers have frequently turned to the compact
disk as the choice for storing and distributing
their documents. DAPS has invested in automated
CD recordable solutions to meet this demand.
DAPS can master or duplicate an exact copy on
high quality CD media. Utilizing advanced ink jet
technology, DAPS can print full color text,
photos and graphics directly onto the CD media.

Copying/Duplication
DAPS is the in-house provider of documents for
the DOD and many Federal agencies since 1949.
We produce electronic printing on high speed
toner based devices that produce razor sharp
copies at 600 dpi with clean solids and
halftones. Our devices print from a digital
memory of your work order and every document is
consistent and accurate from the first copy
produced to the last. DAPS prides itself on
quick turn around times, high quality,
and competitive prices. We have 181 convenient
facilities near you or at your desktop using
DAPS Online.

Desktop Publishing
DAPS provides extensive publishing support to our
customers from pre-production design to
composition and layout. DAPS facilities that
offer desktop publishing use the latest versions
of Corel, Page Maker, Illustrator, and
MS Publisher. Using DAPS ensures smooth document
production from digitally created files. DAPS
offers desktop publishing services at 23 major
facilities.

DVD Replication
DVD initially stood for Digital Video Disc but
now stands for Digital Versatile Disc. Like a
CD, DVD is an optical storage system for
read-only, recordable, and rewritable
applications. DAPS duplicates DVDs at our
facilities at Jacksonville and Pearl Harbor.

DAPS has one facility in Monterey CA that
specializes in the printing of foreign languages.
They do not translate text but they do have the
software and the fonts to print in almost
language from a digital file which is already in
a particular language.

Large Format B/W
DAPS produces large format black white
documents larger than 11X17 inches in over 35
facilities world wide. Our toner based production
equipment produces crisp images and sharp
lines. We can create your documents from digital
file originals or use your large hard copy
originals. DAPS can produce large format
documents from 36 wide to 48 wide on a variety
of substrates such as paper, vellum, Mylar,
vinyl, clear acetate, or metal foil.

Large Format Color
Your ideas are important and it is imperative

DAPS is your convenient source for
creating impressive, full color, large
format documents. DAPS can produce your maps,
posters, signage, displays, or photos in color
that is photographic quality. Your project can
be printed on a variety of substrates such as
glossy paper or vinyl. Producing you project on
waterproof material is a specialty of DAPS.

Mainframe Printing
DAPS prints variable data. Mainframe printing
uses a wide variety of cut sheet printers to
print reports from various legacy systems.
Mainframe reports are printed using the
customers format and or electronic forms to
display the highest quality readable information.
A server network is used to receive print files
from mainframes via TCP/IP connection. Printing
is done on a wide variety of cut-sheet laser
printers, microfiche or microfilm printers, or
converted directly to PDF.

Paper
DAPS can now supply your needs for 20 white bond
paper, either plain or three hole punched.
DAPS provides paper that complies with the
Presidential mandate that Federal agencies use
paper that contains 30 recycled content. This
paper is an excellent choice for your office
copier or printer use. By using DAPS buying
power we can offer this paper at a very
competitive price. Please check with your local
CAM or EMS manager for more information.

Smart Cards
Smart Cards were first introduced to the
Department of the Navy (DON) in 1996. They are
longer no longer simple plastic cards with
magnetic stripes that contain static information.
Today, Smart Cards have embedded integrated
circuit computer chips for storing data such as
hold personal, access and financial information.
DAPS has a MOA with the Navy establishing DAPS as
the agent of production and issuance for smart
cards and produces smart cards at our facilities
at Great Lakes, Patuxent River, and Pensacola.

Decals, Signs, Banners, Stickers
DAPS has the capability to produce multicolor
decals in a fraction of the time it took using
the old silkscreen method. Thanks to new
technology, decals, stickers, banners, and labels
can now be reproduced quickly. Our thermal resin
process bonds more securely to the surface of
vinyl where images do not rub off and do not
require lamination or clear coating. DAPS can
create your order on a variety of substrates such
as vinyl or static film and in a variety of
substrate colors from white to fluorescent red.

Mail Services
DAPS provides high volume mail services which
provides the ease and convenience of using one
source to handle everything from printing the
product to the distribution of the final product.
DAPS provides further savings to the customers by
reducing postal costs through bar coding, CASS
certification, presorting, and mail list

Microfiche
DAPS produces both 105mm silver original and
duplicate microfiche at either 24X or 48X from
hard copy or computer generated data. The
DAPS facility at Robbins AFB can convert hard
copy to microfiche and microfilm from computer
system generated output. The DAPS facilities at
Tinker AFB and Hill AFB can produce microfiche
from computer system generated output. The
facility at Tinker can also duplicate microfiche.

Offset Printing
DAPS produces printing by traditional offset
equipment in our OCONUS faculties. DAPS can
produce four color process printing up with sheet
sizes up to 22X34 inches at our facilities at
Pearl Harbor HI and in Korea. Other DAPS
facilities in Japan, Okinawa, and Guam can print
up to 17x22 sheet size with single color. These
facilities then have the bindery equipment to
cut, fold, and assemble the printed sheets to the
desired final product. All DAPS offset printing
needs within CONUS are procured through the GPO.

Specialty Bindery
DAPS offers traditional bindery services such as
stapling, punching, folding, and cutting in all
our facilities. DAPS continues to expand our
offerings with specialty bindings available at
these specific locations.
DAPS can affix your printed project to a rigid
substance called foam core. This is ideal for
your posters and presentations. DAPS offers
true perfect binding with wrap around covers.

Specialty Bindery
Lamination provides document protection from wear
and moisture and DAPS offers lamination at many
of our facilities. Several facilities can
laminate pieces that are over 40 inches wide
and almost any length.

Target Printing
DAPS produces almost 70 different types of paper
targets in finished sizes from 8X9 inches to
72X73 inches. These targets are produced by a dry
offset process onto special paper specified by
the military (MIL-P-10831B AR). These targets are
used for small arms fire to large artillery fire.
DAPS produces targets at our facility in Rock
Island IL.
