1If you go down to The Forest School today, youre
sure of a big surprise!!!
2Forest School is a new initiative encouraging
children to explore their environment and in so
doing develop their skills through all areas of
the Foundation Stage curriculum.
3Introducing Forest School
Base Camp
The den
The bug hotel
4We use ICT to capture the childrens progress in
6 areas of learning in forest school.
Measuring who is the highest Developing
mathematical vocabulary.
5- Pouring, measuring and comparing capacity
6- Communication, Language and Literacy
Writing their names with mud on the fence
Developing CLL skills
7- Children develop language through role play
8Louis observes and talks about his frozen snake
each session
- Developing vocabulary through observing and
talking about interesting things they find.
9- Knowledge and Understanding
Children learn to take care of their environment
. There is so much life on our site daffodils,
hedges, nettles, blossom, trees, bamboo, long
wavy grass and many different types of mini
beasts have found new homes here.
10Children have been observing birds in the forest
school area.
11One of the activities that the children enjoy the
most in forest school is looking for mini beasts.
They learn how to take care of living things. We
have watched caterpillars turn into butterflies
and release them into forest school, we then
found a cocoon in forest school and watched a
ladybird emerge and we have found a whole
collection of different types of insects.
12Creative development
The children can use a range of materials for
mark making and creating pictures, such as mud
13Natural objects for making sculptures
14And painting with water
15Physical Development
Children learn and develop a range of physical
skills, such as balancing on this see-saw made
from a wooden plank and a log to roll.
16- Children are active throughout their session,
playing a variety of games and skating, rolling
and sliding around in the mud!
17Personal, Social and Emotional
The children gain confidence and develop great
relationships with their peers during the range
of activities Mrs Montgomery provides each
session.
18We have introduced ICT in the foundation
Stage by teaching the children to use everyday
technology in our wonderful Forest School area.
19The children use ICT as evidence of their own
learning.
20Using digital cameras
21Louis Stone Soup
22Hagir fruit on the tree
23Deimante The beautiful tree is red and the sky.
24Krystal The mud is all cracking
25Using scanners
26Lisa manipulates the objects she has found using
the scanner
27Elizabeth made her objects look like an x-ray
28Teddy spent a lot of time exploring the tools on
the scanner
29Using digital movie creators
- The children use digital movie creators to
capture learning in forest school. - We have collected short video clips showing a
wide variety of learning taking place, such as - Role playing making hot chocolate with the mud
and water. - Story telling The Three Little Pigs underneath
a tent the children made. - Children describing interesting objects they
have found in the forest school area. - Developing language through songs relating to
activities in forest school, such as Mrs Wishy
Washy, Wiggly Worms etc.
30Main Outcomes
- The use of ICT in forest school has
- provided evidence of pupil learning for the
foundation stage profiles. - improved childrens learning and enthusiasm for
ICT. - developed confidence in both staff and adults in
using a range of technology.
