Title: Prussia

1
Prussia
  • Welcome to the presentation by Jose Carlin, Joey
    wolf, Roy Davila, Alex Merritt

2
Kings of Prussia
  • One of many kings of Prussia was Karl Hardenberg
    and Frederick Williams lll

3
Karl Hardenberg
  • Karl Hardenberg was the chancellor of Prussia
(1810-17), who reformed the Prussian state and
played a leading role in the coalition that
defeated Napoleon. He was born on May 31, 1750,
in Hanover, Hardenberg entered the service of the
    king of Prussia in 1792.

4
Frederick Williams lll
  • Frederick was the son of Frederick Williams ll,
born in Potsdam. He was given military training
in his youth and from 1792 to 1794 fought against
France during the French revolution. In 1797 he
succeeded to the throne and set about rebuilding
the economy and the army, which had suffered
during the reign of his father. He kept Prussia
neutral in the Napoleonic Wars until 1805, when
persuaded by Russia and the aroused spirit of his
people, he joined the allies against France.

Italy
  • Hardenberg sees Italy as a region whose land is
available to compensate for its sacrifices in the
wars and its loss of lands in Poland (which would
go to Russia). If Metternich will support the
demands for Prussia and Russia, Hardenberg will
support Austrias claims in Italy. He supports
the restoration of victor Emmanuel 1 to the
throne of the Kingdom of Sardinia and the
addition of the former Republic of Genoa to
Sardinas domains. This move would support the
balance of power by creating a stronger nation on
Frances southeastern border, and would also
    uphold the principle of legitimacy.

Prussian coins
  • For many centuries Germany was in actuality a
large number of states, some large, others small,
and power rested mainly with the lords of each
state. The Hapsburgs attempted to unify Germany
ending in the thirty years war 1618 - 1648, which
devastated the German economy, and heightened the
localisation of power. At this point it is
estimated that there were as many as 1,800
separate states some with a population as few as
300 people. Otto von Bismarck was instrumental in
unifying most of these states into a modern
nation. On April 14th 1871, the king of Prussia,
the largest and most powerful state become
emperor William I . According to Krause, the new
nation consisted of 4 kingdoms, 6 grand duchies
and principalities, 3 free cities, and the
    province of Alsace-Lorraine.
