    find appropriate co-operation partners
  • Financial incentives for experience exchange
between the partner regions by funding of the
    European Commission

5
Limitations of inter-regional co-operation
withinthematic networks
  • Different starting points through different
levels of understanding of the same terms require
    time for assimilation
  • Involved partners are engaged in the thematic
    network beside their day-to-day job
  • Question of the amount of their free time which
the partners spend on the thematic network
  • Inter-regional co-operation can be initiated and
    facilitated by thematic networksbut closer
collaboration between a single partners in form
of projects needs more personal effort as it
could provided by a thematic network (see also
    experiences of trans-regional innovation projects
    TRIP)

6
Approaches for further facilitation of
inter-regional co-operation
  • Continuing experience exchange between the
    coordinators of the thematic networks
  • Follow-up / parallel activities to the thematic
    network
  • Increasing inter-regional exchange between single
    partners beside the thematic network
  • Thematic networks as platforms for the
    development of bi-/multilateral projects
  • ...
