Watch these babies grow!!
  • Watch these babies grow!! This is how
babies grow and live. Flying squirrels only have
one brood per year with 2 to 4 young in the
    litter.
  • They build their nests in hollow trees. They
line the nest with shredded tree bark.
  • A flying squirrel is trying to get to its baby.
Its nest is in the tree.

4
Where did that flying squirrel go?
  • Flying squirrels are found in Canada and
Michigan. Flying squirrels nest in holes in dead
trees. Sometimes they build nests outside.
These leaf nests are called dreys. The squirrels
often share nests to maintain body temperature in
the winter because they do not hibernate.
  • Hey! Get down from there!

5
How does that squirrel fly?
  • Hey! Look at that squirrel glide from tree to
tree. The Flying Squirrel is nocturnal, which
means that it is awake at night and asleep during
the day. They can see even better than a human
can see all through the day. Another fact is that
a Flying Squirrel has a piece of skin that is
between the hand and the foot. This acts like a
parachute, so the squirrel can glide from branch
    to branch.
  • A flying squirrel cant fly, instead it glides
    through the air.

6
What Does a Flying Squirrel Eat?
  • Did you know that a Flying Squirrel likes to
eat fruit like berries and sap and nuts that come
from the tree. They are so crazy about maple sap
that they have fallen into sap buckets. They also
like seeds, insects and bird eggs.
  • Did you know that a Flying Squirrel eats the
    same food that we eat?
