    so great?

Character Test 3 Abram Passes A Brotherly
Love Test
  • 7. And there was a strife between the herdmen of
Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle
and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then
    in the land.
  • 8. And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no
strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and
between my herdmen and thy herdmen for we be
    brethren.
  • 9. Is not the whole land before thee? separate
thyself, I pray thee, from me if thou wilt take
the left hand, then I will go to the right or if
thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to
    the left.

3
  • 10. And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all
the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered
every where, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and
Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord, like
the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.
  • 11. Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan
and Lot journeyed east and they separated
themselves the one from the other.
  • 12. Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and
Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and
    pitched his tent toward Sodom.

4
After Passing the 3rd Character Test, God Gives
Abram Additional Revelation
  • 13 14. And the Lord said unto Abram, after that
Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine
eyes, and look from the place where thou art
northward, and southward, and eastward, and
    westward
  • 15. For all the land which thou seest, to thee
will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.
  • 16. And I will make thy seed as the dust of the
earth so that if a man can number the dust of
the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.
  • 17. Arise, walk through the land in the length
of it and in the breadth of it for I will give
    it unto thee.
  • 18. Then Abram removed his tent, and came and
dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron,
and built there an altar unto the Lord.

5
A further indication of Abrahams Growth in
Character
  • He refuses Money for kindness
  • 1421. And the king of Sodom said unto Abram,
Give me the persons, and take the goods to
    thyself.
  • 22. And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have
lift up mine hand unto the Lord, the most high
God, the possessor of heaven and earth,
  • 23. That I will not take from a thread even to
a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing
that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have
    made Abram rich
  • 24. Save only that which the young men have
eaten, and the portion of the men which went with
me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre let them take their
    portion.

6
ABRAM BELIEVES GODS PROMISE ALTHOUGH IT SEEMS
IMPOSSIBLE
  • 15 6. And he believed in the Lord and he
counted it to him for righteousness.
  • 1810. And he said, I will certainly return unto
thee according to the time of life and, lo,
Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard
it in the tent door, which was behind him.
  • 11. Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well
stricken in age and it ceased to be with Sarah
    after the manner of women.
  • Abraham believed God could instill life in the
    dead

Additional Revelation After Abrams Growth in
Character
  • 1512. And when the sun was going down, a deep
sleep fell upon Abram. And, lo, a horror of great
    darkness fell upon him.
  • 13. And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety
that thy seed shall be sojourners in a land that
is not theirs, and shall serve them. And they
shall afflict them four hundred years.
  • 14. And also that nation, whom they shall
serve, will I judge. And afterward shall they
    come out with great substance.
  • 15. But thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace.
Thou shalt be buried in a good old age.
  • 16. And in the fourth generation they shall
come hither again. For the iniquity of the
    Amorite is not yet full.

8
THE GENESIS OF THE ARABS THEIR SOURCE OF
HATRED FOR THE JEWS
  • 161. Now Sarai, Abram's wife, bare him no
children. And she had a handmaid, an Egyptian,
    whose name was Hagar.
  • 2. And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now,
Jehovah hath restrained me from bearing. Go in, I
pray thee, unto my handmaid. It may be that I
shall obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened
    to the voice of Sarai.
  • 3. And Sarai, Abram's wife, took Hagar the
Egyptian, her handmaid, after Abram had dwelt ten
years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to
Abram her husband to be his wife.

And when she saw that she had conceived, her
mistress was despised in her eyes.
  • 5. And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon
thee. I gave my handmaid into thy bosom. And when
she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in
her eyes. Jehovah judge between me and thee
  • 6. But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid
is in thy hand. Do to her that which is good in
thine eyes. And Sarai dealt hardly with her, and
    she fled from her face.

thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.
  • 3. And Abram fell on his face. And God talked

and thou shalt be the father of a multitude of
    nations.
  • .

11
GOD CHANGES ABRAMS NAME TO ABRAHAM

Abram, but they name shall be Abraham. For the
father of a multitude of nations have I made
    thee.

I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come
    out of thee.
  • 7. And I will establish my covenant between me
and thee and thy seed after thee, throughout

of this handmaid shall not be heir with my son,
    even with Isaac.
  • 11. And the thing was very grievous in
Abraham's sight on account of his son.
  • 12. And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be
grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and
because of thy handmaid. In all that Sarah saith
unto thee, hearken unto her voice. For in Isaac
    shall thy seed be called.
  • 13. And also of the son of the handmaid will I
make a nation, because he is thy seed.

13
14. And Abraham rose up early in the morning,
and took bread and a bottle of water, and gave it
unto Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and gave
her the child, and sent her away. And she
departed, and wandered in the wilderness of
Beer-sheba. 15. And the water in the bottle
was spent, and she cast the child under one of
the shrubs. 16. And she went, and sat her down
over against him a good way off, as it were a
bowshot. For she said, Let me not look upon the
death of the child. And she sat over against him,
and lifted up her voice, and wept.
14
17. And God heard the voice of the lad. And the
angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and
said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? Fear not.
For God hath heard the voice of the lad where he
is. 18. Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him
in thy hand. For I will make him a great nation.
19. And God opened her eyes, and she saw a
well of water. And she went, and filled the
bottle with water, and gave the lad drink. 20.
And God was with the lad, and he grew. And he
dwelt in the wilderness, and became, as he grew
up, an archer.

Gods SEED Selection Continues
  • Gods sovereignty had preempted the law of
primogeniture, and selected Isaac through whom to
fulfill His promise, rather than Ishmael, the
    eldest,
  • Now, it will be seen in the case of the birth of
twins, God will exercise His sovereignty and

    her voice, and wept.
  • 17. And God heard the voice of the lad and the
angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and
said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not
for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he
    is.
  • 18. Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in
thine hand for I will make him a great nation.
