the Sabbath day - Severely criticized by the Jews for working
- Note Old Law Ex 3114 14 'You shall keep the
Sabbath, therefore, for it is holy to you.
Everyone who profanes it shall surely be put to
death for whoever does any work on it, that
person shall be cut off from among his people. 15
'Work shall be done for six days, but the seventh
is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever
does any work on the Sabbath day, he shall surely
be put to death. - cf. Jer. 1719-27 Neh. 1315-19

happened on the second Sabbath after the first
that He went through the grain fields. And His
disciples plucked the heads of grain and ate
them, rubbing them in their hands. 2 And some of
the Pharisees said to them, "Why are you doing
what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath? 3 But
Jesus answering them said, "Have you not even
read this, what David did when he was hungry, he
and those who were with him 4 "how he went into
the house of God, took and ate the showbread, and
also gave some to those with him, which is not
lawful for any but the priests to eat? 5 And He
said to them, "The Son of Man is also Lord of the
Sabbath.

7Sabbath Day Problems for the Jews
- John 722-23 22 "Moses therefore gave you
circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from
the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the
Sabbath. 23 "If a man receives circumcision on
the Sabbath, so that the law of Moses should not
be broken, are you angry with Me because I made a
man completely well on the Sabbath? - Lu 1315 The Lord then answered him and said,
"Hypocrite! Does not each one of you on the
Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall,
and lead it away to water it? - Lu 145 5 Then He answered them, saying, "Which
of you, having a donkey or an ox that has fallen
into a pit, will not immediately pull him out on
the Sabbath day?"

- Sabbath harvesting was prohibited (Ex. 421)
- What did the revered David do? (1 Sam. 211-6)
Ate replaced Tabernacle bread, (Note Jesus did
not say it was okay) - Within the intent of the Law to do Good (Isa.
586-7 Lk. 66-11, 1310-17, 141-6) - Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath (Mk. 228, et
al) (the expression used 81 times by Jesus)

philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition
of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not

lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil,
to save life or to kill?" But they kept silent.
5 And when He had looked around at them with
anger, being grieved by the hardness of their
hearts, He said to the man, "Stretch out your
hand." And he stretched it out, and his hand was
restored as whole as the other. 6 Then the
Pharisees went out and immediately plotted with
the Herodians against Him, how they might destroy
Him.
