One of the biggest deserts is in Africa. Its
hard to find deserts in Europe. There are not
many deserts in North America.

Characteristics
There is a plant called an aloe that has a waxy
surface. The desert wren drinks nectar from
cactus flowers. At night, it is 45 degrees and at
day it is 100 degrees.

WOW FACT
50 feet
Guess what? Saguaro cactus can grow 50 feet
high. Also a female adult green toad from the
desert can lay more than 10,000 eggs at one time!
Did you know in 1988 pink Saharan frogs fell
down during a big storm on a British village in
the desert?

Shelter
In the desert people use tents for houses. They
make houses out of mud and some times out of
straw. They hardly use rocks and brick for there
houses.

Clothing
You can wear sandals and shorts in the desert.
Some people put cloth on their whole body so they
dont get sunburn. They even put it on their head!

Transportation
In deserts people ride camels, horses, and
Emu. If youd like to get there fast I suggest
you ride a car or a truck.

Jobs

People in deserts can be miners and mine gold or
diamonds. They can also find and sell oil, sodium
nitrate, and natural gas.
