• The Baroque begins around the start of the 17th
  century. Its characteristics are
• Seizing the moment
• Using emotion
• Showing action
• Portraying the objects on a diagonal
• Using strong lighting from the side
• Placing the figures off center
• Using chiaroscuro in an exaggerated way very
  strong side lighting
• Figures shown twisting torque
• The subject-matter could be religious as in the
  Counter-Reformation art movement.or
  mythological, or referencing the power of
  monarchs or secular and aimed at the middle
  class patrons.
• Patronage expands beyond the church and the
  nobility
