    at risk (19,000,000 in 1997).
  • A repeat of the 1999 Pendola Fire would have
    approximately 7,000,000 in structures at risk
    (2.6 million in 1999).

Fire Threat is a combination of two factors 1)
fire frequency, or the likelihood of a given
area burning, and 2) potential fire behavior
(hazard). These two factors are combined to
create four threat classes ranging from moderate
to extreme. 1

  • Clean-up of burned areas (parcels) can be tracked
    using GIS
  • Burned areas susceptible to increased soil
    erosion can be modeled. This can lead to excess
    runoff.
