  • There are 4 categories of eligibility
  • Category I Joined after Oct. 1985
  • Category II Joined prior to Jan. 1977
  • Category III Involuntarily Separated
  • Category IV VEAP Convert

  • You must also
  • Complete at least 2 years AD
  • Have High School Diploma
  • Have an Honorable Discharge (for Veterans)

Selective Reserve Eligibility
  • To be eligible for the Sel-Res GI-Bill
  • you must commit to a 6 year service
  • contract and
  • Complete IADT
  • Maintain Selective Reserve Status
  • Have a High School Diploma

  • Depending on the GI-Bill program you may need one
    or more of the following forms
  • VA 22-1990 (Application for Benefits)
  • DD 214 (Discharge Documents)
  • DD 2384 1 (Notice of Basic Eligibility)

1. Apply to an institution, school or program
that fits your needs and is VA Approved.
  • 2. Fill out the VA Application for benefits VA
    Form 22-1990.
  • AD will need their ESO signature.
  • Veterans need to include a copy of their
    DD214. Use form SF 180 to order a replacement

4. You will receive a letter from the VA either
explaining your benefits or requesting more
information.
3. Ask the Schools VA Certifying Official to
forward your Form 22-1990 with their Enrollment
certification form 22-1999 to the appropriate VA
Regional Office.
5. Once you begin receiving your education
benefits you must verify your status each month,
via the VA WAVE process, to receive your payments.
