  • Released in March 2003, the book The Da Vinci
Code by Dan Brown quickly made The New York
Times bestseller list. A year later, it was
declared a bestseller in 100 countries, while
Doubleday, its publisher, called it the all-time
    bestselling adult novel.
  • Why such interest? The author claims to have
given the world a fictional, fact-based
    conspiracy theory alleging scientific evidence
that the New Testament is false testimony
    (p.341).

3
  • Is Jesus God? (No)
  • Is the Bible true? (No)
  • Do lost books belong? (Yes)
  • Was Jesus married? (Yes)
  • Did Jesus support The Sacred Feminine? (Yes)
  • Is Mary Magdalene the REAL Holy Grail? (Yes)

What Makes This Book So Dangerous?
All descriptions of artwork, architecture,
documents, and secret rituals in this novel are
accurate. Dan Brown, Author

The Today Show October 10, 2005. Matt Lauer How
much of this is based on reality in terms of
things that actually happened. Brown
Absolutely all of it . . . is historical fact.
6
Good Morning America Nov 3, 2003 Charlie Gibson
How would the book have been different if you
had been writing it as a work of non-fiction?
Brown I dont think it would have been
different.
7
A controversial book first published in 1982 and
presented as non-fiction, based on Pierre
Plantard's Priory of Sion hoax. Authored by
Michael Baigent among others.
The Da Vinci Code draws on Gnostic writings and
modern re-interpretations of those works, as well
as a pseudo-history of the early Christian church
along the lines presented in 1982 in the book
Holy Blood, Holy Grail.
8
Holy Blood, Holy Grail argues that Jesus
married Mary Magdalene and had one or more
children whose descendents emigrated to southern
France. Once there, they intermarried with noble
families who eventually became the Merovingian
dynasty, which is championed today by a secret
society called the Priory of Sion.
9
The Jesus Papers Exposing the Greatest Cover-Up
in History, a book by author Michael Baigent
just released in 2006, explores the detailed
history of Jesus' life and crucifixion, claiming
that a set of papers backs his claims.
10
Dateline NBC News - aired Sunday, April 2 2006
Sara James, Dateline correspondent You believe
that much of what we think we know about Jesus is
a lie? Michael Baigent, author Its a lie. Its
an obvious lie. James So basically, youre
asking anybody who is a Christian to question
their fundamental beliefs? Baigent Absolutely.
11
Dateline NBC News - aired Sunday, April 2 2006
James Some might call your position heresy.
Baigent I should hope they would. James So
youre saying that theres a cover up? Baigent
There is a cover up. Of course theres a cover
up. . . . I dont think Jesus died at the
crucifixion. I think he survived.
12
Why Bother?
  • We must be able to defend the Christian faith in
    every generation (1 Pet. 315 Jude 3).
  • This is a God-given opportunity to talk to people
about the Bible and about Jesus Christ.
  • Owing to widespread biblical illiteracy, many are
genuinely ignorant about what the Bible says.
  • As Laurie Goodstein writes in a New York Times
piece, there is evidence that Mr. Browns novel
may be shaping the beliefs of a generation that
    is famously biblically illiterate.

13
  • The Da Vinci Code saysJesus Is Not God
  • The Church did not recognize Jesus as divine
until the 4th century A.D. at the Council of
    Nicaea.
  • Jesus elevation to divinity was a ploy concocted
by Emperor Constantine designed to consolidate
    his power.

14
  • My dear, Teabing declared, until that moment
in history, Jesus was viewed by His followers as
a mortal prophet. . . a great and powerful man,
but a man nevertheless. A mortal.
  • Not the Son of God?
  • Right, Teabing said. Jesus establishment as
the Son of God was officially proposed and voted

15
on by the Council of Nicaea a relatively close
vote at that. Hold on. Youre saying Jesus
divinity was the result of a vote? Constantine
turned Jesus into deity, who existed beyond the
scope of the human world, an entity whose power
was unchangeable. (p. 233)
16
The Council of Nicaea debated over the Arian
controversy. Arius was influenced by Gnostic
writings and taught that Jesus was a created
being, neither merely human nor fully God. The
church believed the Scriptures that Jesus was
God in the flesh come to earth. Neither side in
this controversy would have agreed with Dan
Brown.
17
A close vote on Jesus deity? We have the
records of the Council of Nicaea. Historians say
the vote was either 218-2 or 300-2. Either way,
were dealing with an author who just isnt
honest with the facts.
18
The Apostles Taught That Jesus Is Deity. Col.
115 29 Phil. 26 Tit. 213 2 Pet. 12 Heb.
13, 8 Rev. 18
19
The Early Church Writers Taught That Jesus Is
Deity.
  • Clement of Rome (95)
  • Hermas of Rome (95)
  • Ignatius of Antioch (110)
  • Polycarp of Smyrna (118)
  • The Didache Teachings of the Apostles (100)

20
God Warned Us About False Teachers Who Would
Deny the Nature of Jesus. 1 John 11-5 218-22
41-3 520-21 Acts 2028-30 2 Pet 21 31-4
21
  • Long before Nicaea church leaders acknowledged
    the deity of Christ.
  • Elders (bishops) in the church defended the deity
of Christ against the heresies that denied it.
  • The Council of Nicaea formalized what the Church
    already believed and was defending.

22
John 11-3 In the beginning was the Word, and
the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He
was in the beginning with God. All things were
made through Him, and without Him nothing was
made that was made.
23
  • The Da Vinci Code says The Four Gospels Are
Not Reliable and Were Late in Being Accepted
  • The four canonical Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke,
and John, were only accepted into the canon in
the fourth century A.D. in the place of the
earlier and more reliable Gnostic Gospels.

24
The Bible is a product of man, my dear. Not of
God. The Bible did not fall magically from the
clouds. Man created it as a historical record of
tumultuous times, and it has evolved through
countless translations, additions, and revisions.
History has never had a definitive version of
the book. (p. 231)
25
Jesus Christ was perhaps the most enigmatic and
inspirational leader the world has ever seen
Understandably, His life was recorded by
thousands of followers across the land More than
eighty gospels were considered for the New
Testament, and yet only a relative few were
chosen for inclusion Matthew, Mark, Luke, and
John among them. (p 231)
26
Constantine commissioned and financed a new
Bible, which omitted those gospels that spoke of
Christs human traits and embellished those
gospels that made Him godlike. The earlier
gospels were outlawed, gathered up, and burned.
(p. 234)
27
These are photocopies of the Nag Hammadi and
Dead Sea Scrolls, the earliest Christian
records. Troublingly, they do not match up with
the gospels in the Bible. (page 231)
28
Theres an enormous difference between
hypothetically discussing an alternate history of
Christ, and He paused. . . . And presenting
to the world thousands of ancient documents as
scientific evidence that the New Testament is
false. (p. 341)
29
The Council of Nicaea did not even discuss the
Christian canon, much less replace the Gospel of
Thomas and other Gnostic Gospels with the Gospels
of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
30
The 4 Gospels Were Fully Accepted By 180
AD. There were only about 20 other Gospels, not
80, and NONE of them were given any credibility
by early church writers.
31
It is not difficult to see how and when the
early church recognized the inspired books. For
an excellent discussion see A General
Introduction to the Bible by Geisler Nix.
32
Evidence from 1st and 2nd Century Writers
Important source for reconstruction of the text
of the New Testament
so extensive are these citations that if all
other sources for our knowledge of the text of
the New Testament were destroyed, they would be
sufficient alone for the reconstruction of
practically the entire New Testament. Bruce M.
Metzger. The Text of the New Testament Its
Transmission, Corruption and Restoration. (1968),
86.
33
Evidence from 1st and 2nd Century Writers
Important source for reconstruction of the text
of the New Testament
  • Dalrymple found quotations or allusions to all
but 11 verses of the N.T.
  • Over 32,000 quotations prior to the Council of
    Nicaea in 325 AD.

34
Evidence from 1st and 2nd Century Writers
Important source for reconstruction of the text
of the New Testament
NONE of the Gnostic Gospels were quoted or
alluded to as inspired by credible early church
writers.
35
Gnostic Writings
The Gospel of Thomas Simon Peter said to them,
Mary should leave us, for females are not worthy
of life. Jesus said, Look, I shall guide her to
make her male, so that she too may become a
living spirit resembling you males. For every
female who makes herself male will enter heaven's
kingdom.
36
Gnostic Writings
The Gospel of Truth? For if what they have
published is the Gospel of truth, and yet is
totally unlike those which have been handed down
to us from the apostles, any who please may
learn, as is shown from the Scriptures
themselves, that that which has been handed down
from the apostles can no longer be reckoned the
Gospel of truth. - Irenaeus 180 AD
37
Dr. Norman Geisler stated it this way A book is
not the Word of God because it is accepted by the
people of God. Rather, it was accepted by the
people of God because it is the Word of God. That
is, God gives the book its divine authority, not
the people of God. They merely recognize the
divine authority which God gives to it.

1 Peter 123-25 having been born again, not of
corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the
word of God which lives and abides forever, . . .
The grass withers but the word of the Lord
endures forever."
39
Matthew 2435 Heaven and earth will pass away,
but My words will by no means pass away.

  • The Da Vinci Code says Jesus Was Married To
    Mary Magdalene
  • In order to cement their ecclesiastical power,
the male leaders of the Church suppressed all of
the evidence of Jesus secret marriage to Mary
Magdalene and the birth of their daughter Sarah.

41
Apocalypse of James (2nd) - And he (Jesus)
kissed my mouth. He took hold of me, saying, My
beloved! Behold I shall reveal to you those
(things) that (neither) the heavens nor their
archons have known. . . .
Mary Magdaleneher marriage to Jesus Christ a
matter of historical record. (p. 244) Actual
transcript from Gnostic Gospel of PhilipAnd
the companion of - (missing) - Mary Magdalene -
(missing) - her more than the disciples kiss
her
42
Scripture references present Mary as a devoted
disciple, but there is not a hint of any kind of
romantic relationship between Jesus and Mary, or
that they married and had children together.
43
We have volumes of texts about Jesus from the
first five centuries, many of them small print,
single space, double columned texts of several
hundred pages each. In all of these materials not
a single text describes Jesus as married.
44
The Da Vinci Code says Christianity
Suppressed The Sacred Feminine The ancients
envisioned their world in two halves masculine
and feminine. Their Gods and Goddesses worked to
keep a balance of power. Yin and yang. (p. 36)
45
  • Claims Made in The Da Vinci Code
  • The female half of all things is the sacred
    feminine or the divine goddess.
  • Nature worship is a natural and desirable
    religion.
  • Goddess worship is an ancient and valid religious
    expression.

46
Christianity Suppressed The Sacred
Feminine Constantine and his male successors
successfully converted the world from matriarchal
paganism to patriarchal Christianity by waging a
campaign of propaganda that demonized the sacred
feminine, obliterating the goddess from modern
religion forever." (p. 124)
47
Christianity Suppressed The Sacred
Feminine Powerful men in the early church
conned the world by propagating lies that
devalued the female and tipped the scales in
favor of the masculine. (p.124)
48
  • The Da Vinci Code says The Priory of Sion
    Guarded the Secret
  • This society was allegedly founded in France in
1099 AD and boasted such men among its members
as Isaac Newton, Victor Hugo, and Leonardo da
    Vinci.

49
The existence of this society as presented by
Brown and others is based on documents forged by
Pierre Plantard which were exposed in a series of
French books and a BBC documentary in 1996 as a
HOAX!
The Priory of Sion, a European secret society
founded in 1099, is a REAL organization.Page 1

Da Vinci supposedly the Grand master of the
Priory of Sion from 1510-1519 was fascinated
with goddess iconology, paganism, feminine
deities, and contempt for the church. pg. 113
52
Whats the significance of the V Formed by
Jesus and John?
According to The Da Vinci Code this is not
John, but Mary Magdalene. Mary is the Holy
Grail and the V symbolizes Jesus and Marys
relationship she is The Sacred Feminine and
would carry His bloodline through a daughter
Sarah.
53
  • The Holy Grail is not a chalice but was Mary
Magdalene, whom Jesus intended to be The Sacred
Feminine and carry the royal bloodline of Jesus.
  • Behold, Teabing proclaimed, the greatest
cover-up in history. Not only was Jesus Christ
    married, but he was a father . . . p. 249

54
Satans Lie
every faith in the world is based on
fabrication. That is the definition of faith -
acceptance of what we imagine to be true, that
which we cannot prove. (p. 341)
55
A FAITH based upon fabrications and blatant lies
is a wrong, UNSUBTANTIATED FAITH!! A FAITH based
upon credible and sufficient evidence can be
believed beyond a reasonable doubt!!
56
Romans 1017 So then faith comes by hearing, and
hearing by the word of God.
57
GOD? In the beginning was the Word and the
Word was God (Jn. 11-3)
58
1 Peter 315 sanctify Christ as Lord in your
hearts, always being ready to make a defense to
everyone who asks you to give an account for the
hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and
reverence
59
Have You Obeyed The Gospel?
Hear the Word (Rom. 1017) Believe that Jesus
is the Son of God (Acts 837) Repent of Your
Sins (Acts 238) Confess that Jesus is the Son
of God (Acts 837) Be Baptized for Forgiveness
of Sins (Acts 238) Live Faithfully until You
Die (Rev. 210)
