1 Kings 11 1-13

• Solomon loves women (700 wives and 300
  concubines) from many foreign lands including the
  daughter of Pharaoh
• Thisis against the command of God in 1 Kgs. 112,
  that if Solomon married a foreign women, he would
  eventually fall from the worship of YHWH.
• Solomons heart is turned and he began to follow
  Astarte, god of the Sidonians.
• Solomon also built an altar to Chemosh and
  Molech.

• YHWH is angered by Solomons turn from Him.
• YHWH tells Solomon that because of his sin, he
  will tear his kingdom from him and give it to his
  servant.
• However, God will preserve one tribe due to David
  and for the sake of Jerusalem.

1 Kings 11 14-48

• 3 Adversaries are raised against Solomon Hadan
  the Edomite, Rezon, son of Eliada, and Jeroboam,
  son of Nebat, a servant of Solomon.

Hadan the Edomite

• Of the royal house of Edom
• Fled to Egypt in boyhood when David killed every
  male in Edom
• Pharaoh finds favor with his family and cares for
  them
• Decides to return after Davids death to rule Aram

Rezon, Son of Eliada

• Fled from master, King Hadadezer of Zobah
• Leader of a marauding band, eventually made king
  of Damascus

Jeroboam, Solomons Servant

• Jeroboam was given charge of finishing the wall
  around Jerusalem.
• Meets prophet Ahijah who tells him that he shall
  be king of Israel because of Solomons sin.
• Solomons seeks to kill Jeroboam, but he flees to
  Egypt.

Death of Solomon

• After reigning for 40 years, Solomon dies and
  buried with David
• His son, Rehoboam, ascends to the throne
