Title: Simulation of Resource Reservation Protocol in Wireless Networks

1
Simulation of Resource Reservation Protocol in
Wireless Networks
  • Enguang He, Min Zhang
  • 13 December 1999

2
Motivation
  • Support quality of service (QoS) to real time
    application in wireless network.
  • RSVP offers very poor performance over wireless
    networks.
  • RSVHP was proposed to improve RSVP performance in
    wireless networks.
  • How much improvement?

3
Simulation
  • Process Oriented Language CSIM is used
  • Each cell has a Base Station (BS).
  • Each BS serves a number of Mobile Hosts (MH).
  • MH can move around cells.
  • Handoff happens when MH moves across cells.

4
Configuration
Parameter Name Parameter Value (Sec) Description
MH_SERV_MEAN 600 Average mobile hoset communication time
MH_SERV_VAR 120 Standard variance of communication time
MH_ARRIVAL_MEAN 30 Average mobile host inter-arrival time
MH_ARRIVLA_VAR 30 Standard variance of host inter-arrival time
TRY_TIMEOUT 5 The time to try to setup a connection with base station
5
Handoff Drop Rate
6
Utilization of Base Stations
7
Queue Length of Base Stations
