Were Is It Found?
  • Lumber is found in Michigans upper and lower
    peninsula. Hardwood trees is mostly found south
    of Muskegon to Saginaw and the softwood is
    mostly found in the north of Muskegon and
    Saginaw.

What the favorite was
  • The favorite tree was the white pine. It was the
    favorite lumbering tree because they grew tall
    and strait.

How did it get started?
  • Most people lived in what was then Wayne
    Monroe and, Macomb county. The
    first lumber industry stared in Saginaw Bay.
    Most of the people came from Europe imigrants to
    work at the lumber industrys.

Saginaw Bay
  • Saginaw Bay was a great place to start the
    sawmill, because of the rivers and access to the
    great lakes.

Producing lumber
  • In 1869 Michigan produced the most lumber.
  • The Lumber Boom ended because a lot of trees were
    cut down.

Shanty boys and big wheels
  • The Shanty Boy are a group of lumber jacks.
  • Some of the tools they used are axes, saws and
    big wheels. The big wheels are 9 to 10 feet tall
    and do not need icy roads to hall lumber. They
    can also go over almost anything.

Life of a lumber jack
  • Its a cold dirty life. You wake up early and
    spend long days in the forest.

Paul Bunyan
  • Paul Bunyan is a famous woodcutter Legend. He
    cut lots of lumber and saved lumber jacks. His
    statue is in the st.Ignace.

  • A Natural Resource is a gift of nature. Such as
    lumber, and fire wood.

  • Did you know that in the past Michigan produced
    the most lumber.
  • Did you know that before the Big Wheel lumbermen
    worked in the winter not because they liked the
    cold but because it was easier to slide lumber on
    the ice.
