Located in South Texas, the university is a
teaching, research, and service institution that
provides access to higher education in an
ethnically and culturally diverse region of the
nation. Texas AM University Kingsville offers
an extensive array of baccalaureate and masters
degrees, and selected doctoral and professional
degrees in an academically challenging,
learner-centered and caring environment where all

4 Vision (College of Graduate
Studies)In 2012, the doctoral programs at Texas
AM University-Kingsville will number seven and
will possibly include some aspects of the
following programs chemical engineering,
environmental engineering, biology, horticulture,
wildlife veterinary medicine, and a terminal
degree in art. Graduate assistants will be paid
at a rate competitive with comparable size
universities, and graduate assistantships will be
available to support expanded graduate programs.
Our student population will be diverse, greater
in number, come from institutions around the
globe, and have opportunity for intellectual
growth and leadership. Our graduate faculty will
be recognized for their concern for students and
for their scholarly work. Continuing efforts
will be made to enhance to a position of superior
quality for those programs where improvements may
be needed. The quality and diversity of our
graduate programs will distinguish TAMUK from
surrounding universities and will rate it as one
of the top five public institutions in the state
of Texas. By 2012, the graduate headcount
enrollment at TAMUK will be 25 of the
universitys total headcount.The state of Texas
will benefit greatly from the efforts made at the
graduate level by Texas AM University-Kingsville.
An improved quality of life will result due to
these efforts.

5 Mission (College of Graduate
Studies) The College of Graduate Studies
mission is to effectively administer an academic
structure of quality graduate programs which
provides the means for students to foster
creativity, critical thinking, research, and
analysis at the masters and doctoral levels in
agriculture and human sciences, arts and
sciences, business administration, education, and
engineering. To this end, the College shall
provide an intellectually challenging education
with high academic standards so as to meet the
occupational, intellectual, and cultural needs of
its students.
6GOALS/ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- GOAL 1 Recruitment and retention of graduate
students will result in an increase in headcount. - Graduate Scholarships and Doctoral Assistantship
totaling 388,000 - (Goal and objective accomplished Fifty
graduate scholarships and twenty-six doctoral
assistantships were awarded mostly to new
recruits) - Increase graduate enrollment
- (Goal and objectives accomplished The
headcount enrollment for fall 06 compared to
fall 05 showed a 4 increase at the masters
level and 9 decrease at the doctoral level. The
decrease at the doctoral level was due mainly to
a large cohort of graduating students in Wildlife
Science and capping of recruits in bilingual
education and educational leadership.
