Examples of Enterprising teachers in Art
  • At Ursuline High School in Wimbledon, Enterprise
skills are embedded into the curriculum of all
    subjects. The following presentation highlights
not just the use of Enterprising skills by
students who worked in the local community and
local primary schools but also put on, which they
planned from scratch, their own exhibition held
in Baker street. The following presentation
demonstrates Enterprising teaching in Art at
    Ursuline.

  • Wall mural Project.
  • St Peter and Paul primary school contacted the
    art department with a challenge.
  • Their playground needed a facelift, the
playground walls were bare and uninspiring.
  • A competition was run for Year 8 pupils to
produce images for the wall design. Jessica
Higgings design was chosen, the winner and three
runners up were taken to the primary school to
draw out the design on day one. On day two, Sixth
formers worked with year 5 and 6 pupils to paint
    the design.

Laurens story
  • I worked with two year six pupils and both were
excited to do some painting. We worked together
as a team painting the numbers and circles. this
was a good experience for me because i Iearnt how
to communicate with pupils younger than myself
which is useful considering I want to work with
    children in the future.

Emilys Story
  • The Baker Street exhibition was a unique
opportunity for me to learn about organising an
exhibition. As a team we produced the invitations
which were sent to parents, staff, and governors.
We raised money between us to cater for wines.
We descended on Baker street gallery to hang our
work in a professional manner and price our work.
  • The exhibition was a huge success and the
    private viewing was well attended.
  • I felt confident about discussing my work with
    the public.

Graces Story
  • We were given the opportunity to display our
work in a gallery in baker street. This was a
fantastic opportunity to learn how to display my
work and talk about it to the public. This is
excellent experience for me as I need to be able
to present my work with confidence when applying
for art college courses. It also looks fantastic
    on my CV.

Baker Street Exhibition Sixth Form and year 11
Pupils had the opportunity to exhibit their work
thanks to a business and enterprise link. Sixth
formers learnt how to display and hang their own
work. They had to explain their work and ideas to
guests at the private view.

In conclusion the use of business and enterprise
links has helped us to gain more experience with
art in the working world. And has shown us that
art is not simply confined to our sketchbooks.
