the SC Education Program to address continuity of
the program and sustained change within
    educational institutions
  • A small group of 3 quickly grew to 50 people who
developed a 3-year plan for SC07-09, as well as
    Pathways to SC07 to prepare
  • A CI-TEAM proposal to NSF is pending review to
    complement this effort

4
SC07-09 Education Goals

continuity and broader, sustained impact in
    education
  • Sustained cyberinfrastructure integration in
    undergraduate science, technology, engineering
    and mathematics classrooms including teacher
    preparation programs
  • Increase participation of larger, more diverse
    communities in the SC Conference
  • Leverage existing programs and resources

9
Pathways to SC07
  • Developed in parallel with SC07-09 programs
  • Goals
  • Identify existing and emerging resources for use
    in the 3-year program
  • Identify gaps that we can realistically address
for use during the SC07-09 programs
  • Recruit institutions, administrators, faculty and
students to participate - e.g. teacher
    preparation faculty, non-traditional HPC users
  • Develop strategic partnerships to complement the
    SC07-09 efforts
  • Providers of resources
  • Business/industry collaborations

10
Pathways Activities
  • This workshop is intended to chart an informed
course to best serve administrators, faculty and
    students for sustained change
  • Follow-on workshops to address
  • Ensuring good resources are in the digital
    libraries - e.g. conducting CSERD/VVA sessions
  • Development of resources and materials to address
    the gaps
  • Outreach to recruit institutions and faculty
  • Develop partnerships (academic, industrial, etc.)
  • Demonstrate value to secure further support from
    SC

11

  • of resources reviewed and added to digital
    libraries (NSDL and ACM)
  • of gaps that are filled
  • of people involved in the process
  • people involved repeatedly
  • institutions and faculty recruited
  • Activities that address sustained change
  • Anecdotal information that demonstrates added
    value of this effort
