Introduction

Our Work
  • Carton
  • HF(13.56MHz) RFID system substitutes for
barcode system on the cigarettes production line .
  • Pallet
  • Dynamic data recording and modification with
    UHF(860-900MHz) RFID system for stackby-stack
    transportation of cigarettes .
  • Thirty cigarette-cartons on a pallet make a
    stack.

4
Why RFID?
  • Advantages of RFID compared to barcode

1.No need of light and larger read range
2.Writable
3.Long life time and high reliability
Others
5
Frequency Selection
Requirements a. The auto-identifying requirement
is realized at a minimum cost. b. The
interrogating range on the production line must
be no less than 5 centimeters, and on pallet
transport no less than 30 centimeters c. The
pallet tag must be writable and its duration of
writing data into the memory should be as short
as possible.
  • 125KHz
  • 13.56MHz
  • 433MHz
  • 860-900MHz
  • 2.45GHz
  • 5.8GHz

Problems and Solutions
12
Problems and Solutions
  • HF reader fails to read
  • Cartons fall down from the suction cup
  • UHF tag writing ability test
  • Data accordance check
  • Data redundancy and compact

Percentage of normal stacks to total stacks
Factors of abnormal stacks and their percentages

Results and Analysis
  • Repeat
  • Hybrid
  • In-accordance
  • Write Failure
  • Memory Empty
  • Read ID Failure

This is because the non-deterministic nature of
RFID slotting or back-scatting communication

Achievements
  • The HF RFID usage is not so much satisfying.
  • The UHF RFID system is exciting.

-It reduces the transport time of each stack
. -It reduces the damages to the
cigarette-cartons . -It paves the way for the
realization of digital warehouse management.
17
Future Work
  • RFID technology is adopted in the whole tobacco
    industry chain

From production line to warehouse management,
until to retail process on the shelf, it will
realize visible tracking of products, physical
distribution management based on real time
information

Conclusions
  • HF
  • UHF
  • Conclusively
  • This pilot project has testified some
    advantages of RFID technology.
