Whats Happening to the Zoox??
  • Last week our Zoox count decreased.
  • Not only our we stressing the Aiptasia with one
main stressor but they are not getting nutrients
    they need.
  • Remember to take this in to account.

3
Finding the Chlorophyll Content
  • Wavelength Readings
  • At 665nm-.013nm
  • At 647nm-.013nm
  • At 630nm-.043nm
  • Place numbers in equation given to find
    chlorophyll-a in micrograms per. milliliter
  • Results 0.13059

4
Approximating the Biomass of Our Aiptasia
  • The Biomass of an Aiptasia contains protein
  • How much protein?
  • We used the Bradford (Coomassie Blue) Assay to
    find out.

Protein Trial 1 Trial 2 Average
0.25 0.245 0.259 0.252
0.5 0.459 0.459 0.459
0.75 0.972 0.941 0.9565
1 1.354 1.213 1.2835
1.25 1.317 1.399 1.358

Heat Waves
  • A heat wave is a prolonged period of excessively
hot weather, which may be accompanied with high
    humidity.
  • There is no universal definition of a heat wave
the term is relative to the usual weather in the
    area.
  • The term is applied both to routine weather
variations and to extraordinary spells of heat
which may occur only once a century.
  • The most recent and devastating heat wave would
have to be in 1998 after El Nino

A Picture of Average Ocean Temperature
7
Our Group Experiment
  • Last week we rose the temperature 10 C
  • Using a small heater
  • And on Friday I came and removed the heater after
    observing the Aiptasia
  • They had turned a very gray color and had become
    white on the bottom
  • We wanted to see the recovery of the Aiptasia,
after a heat wave to relate it the coral in the
oceans dealing with the extreme changes in their
    environment
