United Nations Volunteers programme
  • Created by the General Assembly in 1970 as a
    volunteer arm of the United Nations
  • It mobilizes qualified UN Volunteers and
    encourages people to become active in
    volunteering in their countries
  • 8,114 volunteers served in 136 countries in 2005
  • To date, 73 International UNVs served in
    Pakistan and 295 Pakistani UNVs served overseas
  • More than 50 countries have National UNV scheme

Objectives of the National UNV scheme
  • To provide support to the Government of Pakistan,
    UN agencies and civil society organizations in
    disaster relief, recovery and reconstruction
    efforts
  • b) To contribute to the prioritized development
    needs of the Government of Pakistan by the use of
    volunteerism in community mobilization and
    provision of services.
  • c) To promote volunteerism which will bring
    benefits to both society and the individual
    volunteers.

Collaboration with NVM
  • Support management and operation of NVM HQ
  • Provide supervisory and management role in the
    field operations of NVM
  • Assist NVM in training and mentoring less
    experienced volunteers
  • Coordinate activities of volunteer involving
    organizations and jointly promote recognition of
    volunteerism

Who can become National UNVs
  • National UNVs should have
  • Academic credentials (preferably Masters degree)
  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant work experience
  • Minimum 25 years of age
  • Good communication skills
  • Evidence of volunteer spirit

Vulnerability Analysis and Mapping / Reproductive
Health / Education / Procurement / Disaster
