3CISCO FIRES v10 NFIRS
- So what is this NFIRS, anyway?
The National Fire Incident Reporting System
(NFIRS) is an informative system initiated and
supported by the U.S. Fire Administration. The
USFA developed NFIRS as a means of assessing the
nature and scope of the fire problem in the U.S.
The system first came on line in 1976, and since
then it has grown in both participation and use.
4CISCO FIRES v10NFIRS Background
- First, it is the legal record of the fact that a
fire or other incident occurred and provides
official notification. - Second, it provides information to senior
officers and fire department managers so that
they are kept informed about what is happening
within areas of responsibility.
5CISCO FIRES v10NFIRS Background
- Third, the incident report provides data on fire
and other emergency services to fire service
management so they can track trends, gauge the
effectiveness of prevention and intervention
measures presently being used, evaluate the
impact of new methods, and indicate those areas
that may require further attention.
