Workshop goal
  • West Virginia 4-H All Stars by constitution may
    nominate any 4-H member or volunteer leader
    meeting the requirements as stated in the
    Constitution. Both members and leaders are
    approver on their quality of service provided to
    the 4-H program and their community.
  • Annually, nominees are not approved by the state
    All Star screening committee because the listed
    involvement does not describe the service
    specifically or just list offices held and/or
    committee membership. After attending this
    workshop, you will be able to get all of your
    qualified nominees selected, and you will be able
    to train All Stars in your county how to do a
    better job, also.

Eligibility
  • Leaders
  • Age 18 or over .
  • Registered with WVU-ES as a leader.
  • Serving in at least their 5th year.
  • Members
  • Enrolled as 4-H member in at least their 5th
    year.
  • Have received their 4-H Charting Pin.
  • Must be at least 17 years old not reached age
    22 by Jan 1st of current year.

Recommendations to state selection committee can
be made by any
  • WV 4-H All Star member.
  • All Star in any collegiate 4-H club in
    conjunction with clubs advisor.
  • Executive committee member.
  • County Extension agent signs certifying that the
    constitutionally required information listed on
    the registration form is accurate .

Recommendations to the Executive Committee by any
  • Executive committee member .
  • WV 4-H All Star member.
  • For Extension personnel and other qualified
    individuals who have contributed or are
    contributing outstanding service to the West
    Virginia 4-H Program according with such criteria
    as the Executive Committee may consider relevant
    and appropriate.

  • The 4-H All Star motto is SERVICE. In this
    portion of the form, write three examples of
    service which demonstrate 4-H service as a leader
    at club, county, or state level. One of these
    examples may include service to (not
    participation in) non 4-H programs. Please do not
    add extra pages.

  • BE SPECIFIC! When possible, include numbers and
    specific instances.
  • Avoid using such words as attended, participated,
    several, helped, and many.
  • Use words such as directed, organized, conducted
    and prepared to describe the Record of Service.
  • Do not include any proper nouns that would help
    identify the person or county.

    complete their projects.
  • This person was a workshop coordinator at the
    county 4-H project workshop for two years.

Common Mistakes on Leaders Record
  • Besides lack of use of action words.
  • Covered too many areas of service in one example.
  • Repeated information in more that one area.
  • Single sentence used in one or more areas.
  • No information in one area.
  • Adding new service info on summary of service
    card.

  • All of the things covered on the Leader
    recommendations.
  • Listing achievement and accomplishments on the
    front side and not on the back side as required.
  • Putting new areas of Service on the back side.

Exercise
  • Using the generic record form provided
  • Write one area of Service of each a member and a
    leader.
  • Complete one of the areas of achievement and
    accomplishments on the back side.
