The Flute

• Looks like a long tube with keys
• Sound pitch is higher than most instruments
• It blends well with other instruments to create a
  sweet, delicate sound
• Is played by blowing through a whole in the
  mouthpiece

The Clarinet

• Is often referred to as a licorice stick
• Has three distinct sounding parts to the pitch
• Is played by blowing through a single reed
  attached to the mouth piece
• Has one of the largest ranges on a woodwind
  instrument

The Oboe

• Looks similar to a clarinet, only smaller
• Sound is often referred and compared to a duck
  quacking
• Is played my blowing though a double reed that is
  projecting from the top of the instrument

The Bassoon

• Is a large, wooden conical shaped instrument
• It has one of the most distinctive sounds of all
  the woodwind instruments
• The mouthpiece is a metal tube that is protruding
  from the instrument

The Wind Quintet

• This a chamber ensemble comprised of the five
  instruments
• Four of the instruments are woodwinds, with an
  added french horn
• The french horn is used because its sound best
  fits with the other instruments
• This ensemble group is popular for events and
  performances
