Acoustics Engineering
Forensic and Criminology Engineering
Applied Strategic Game Engineering
Study of sound, optics, vibration and noise, how
these are generated, their relationship to music
and how they can be enhanced and suppressed.
Involves Design and strategic decision making.
It is the application of statistical and design
principles.
The investigation and analysis of criminal cases,
as well as the reconstruction of failures in

Sample Survey Questions
(Scale 1 strongly disagree, 7 strongly agree)
Students When accidents or malfunctions happen,
I am curious as to why and how. Employers I
believe there exists a sufficiently large market
for the investigation and reconstruction of
crimes and engineering failures. Family
friends Well-designed games are important in a
childs development, both physically and
mentally.

Forensics and Criminology Engineering
The teaching and research activities of the
Department of Forensics and Criminology
Engineering (FCE) concern the investigation and
analysis of criminal cases, as well as the
reconstruction of accidents and failures in
machines, structures, and other systems.

Specializations
Due to its multidisciplinary nature, FCE has
been broken down into three specialized paths
- Option I Failure Analysis - Option II

Option I- Failure Analysis
The study of determining how and why entities
(such as structures and vehicles) fail. Students
will analyze material damage, mechanical failures
and the reconstruction of crimes.
  • Lower Division
  • E45-Properties of materials
  • E36-Statics
  • E37-Dynamics
  • Upper Division
  • Civil Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering

Option II-Bio-Chemical Analysis
The students learn the techniques to investigate
evidence from DNA sequences, polymorphic proteins
and enzymes and antigenic variants found in
various body fluids and samples.

Option III- Computer Forensics
Students will study data identification,
recovery, despoliation, security, and validation.
Graduates can apply these concepts to computer
fraud, hacking, identity theft, and other
electronic crimes

Comments of prototype
In my first year, I dont feel that I am
informed enough to help me decide on which
specific area I want to pursue, so that I can
take the prerequisites that I need to take.
- Andres (MCB) Im curious to hear from
professionals in this field because I dont know
much about it. - Natalie (ME) Is Law
Enforcement an Engineering practice? - Dan

Step 9-Refinements
  • A FCE freshman seminar was added to give
students an opportunity to explore the 3 FCE
    options
  • The 4 sub-majors were reduced to 3 because
    investigation and
  • law enforcement were not considered engineering
    disciplines
  • A course in engineering ethics is now to be taken
    in the
  • second year instead of the fourth year.

Conclusions
  1. Survey ask questions that a person cannot
automatically say yes or no to. Creating a
survey is not as easy as we thought.
  2. Persona should also be given in the context of
    the user, employer and professor
  3. During brainstorming, keep all ideas. After you
eliminate an idea, it may still be used later on,
    specially after feedback.
