How To Make A Picture Counting Book

Step 1

• Before the lesson, I will staple ten pieces of
  paper between two pieces of construction paper
  for every student.
• Then I will write, My Picture Counting Book on
  the first piece of construction paper.
• Then I will collect all my materials such as
  glue, scissors, magazines, and crayons.

Step 2

• I will give each student one of the counting
  books and some crayons.
• While letting them know we are making a picture,
  counting book today.
• This book will have a number for each page.
• Review Counting

Step 3

• I will tell the students to open their book to
  the first page.
• I will then tell them to write O on the first
  page. While I draw a O on the chalkboard.
• I will then follow the same steps for numbers
  1-10.

Step 4

• After all the pages are numbers I will pass out
  magazines, scissors, and glue.

Step 5

• Then I will tell the children to cut out pictures
  from the magazines.
• We will place as many pictures that the number
  tells us to on the page.
• I will discuss that the page with zero on it will
  get no pictures.

Step 6

• Then I will tell my children to turn to the next
  page.
• This page has the number 1 so, it will get one
  picture.
• I will describe that we will need to cut out
  little pictures to make sure that each picture
  fits on each page.

Step 7

• I will then model how to cut out a picture and
  glue it on the appropriate page.

Step 8

• Then the students will complete the rest of their
  book.
• They will work independently on the rest.
• I will help each student as needed.

• When the books are finished I will spread the
  pages apart in each book to let them dry.
