  • Use ability grouping sparingly
  • Use variety of criteria for grouping Skill
    level, Socioeconomic status, Random (I.e. Hair
    Color, Birth Month, etc.)

Informal Groups
  • Groups that last from a few minutes to a class
    period.
  • Students turn to a neighbor, pair up with someone
    close etc.
  • Clarify expectations, Focus attention, Allows
    time to process information.

  • Ensure students have enough time to complete
    academic assignments.
  • May last for several days or weeks.
  • Includes basic cooperative learning components
