Spatial Priorities for Growth

• 1st Regional centres of Manchester and
  Liverpool
• 2nd Inner areas surrounding these centres
• 3rd 23 towns cities in the 3 city
  regions (Macclesfield Crewe) with
  potential for LDFs to designate additional
  large suburban centres for growth
• 4th Towns cities outside the city regions

• 5th spatial priority Key Service Centres
• Act as service centres for surrounding areas,
  providing a range of services
• Development in rural areas concentrated in Key
  Service Centres
• Meeting local needs

  (villages)
• Small scale development to help sustain local
  services, meet local needs and support local
  businesses
• Development in open countryside only in
  exceptional circumstances

• General extent maintained
• No need for strategic change before 2011

• Strategic studies to investigate changes
• May provide for Manchester Airport change
  expansion

• 400 new houses per annum 2003 2021 in
  Macclesfield Borough. (1150 pa in Cheshire East)
• Southern Manchester / North East Cheshire
• Focus on meeting local and affordable housing
  needs
• Avoid impact on neighbouring housing markets

• Regarded as key economic driver for region
• Enhance public transport / reduce car use
• Ensure environmental standards are met
• Examine scope for relocating activities off site
• Consider the effect of new development on health
  and well-being of local communities

• Promote economic prosperity
• Consistent with environmental character
• Creation of attractive and sustainable communities
