Part One Requesting Limits and Contacts
  • Requests must be placed in person.
  • Patrons must be in departments within the
    Academic Health Center (i.e. Veterinary Medicine)
    to request articles.
  • Patrons may request up to four articles per day.
  • Orders generally average one to two business days
    to complete. Rush orders will be processed ASAP.

Part Two Logging Into the Database
  • Open a browser window and enter
    http//biomed1.lib.umn.edu/fmi/iwp/res/iwp_home.ht
    ml
  • in the address field.
  • Click the Request item from Bio-Med link.
  • Note This is the websites home page.

  • A login screen will appear.
  • Enter staff in the Account Name field.
  • Enter ill in the Password field.

  • The web page on the left will appear in the
    browser window.
  • The section at the left is called the toolbar.
  • The section at the right is called the request
    form.

  • The house icon is used to navigate to the home
    page.
  • The pencil and magnifying glass icons are used to
    switch between the Browse mode and the Find mode,
    respectively.
  • The mode that is currently selected will appear
    on the second line. (In this example, the Browse
    mode is selected.)
  • Browse is used to add new orders or modify
    existing orders.
  • Find is used to search for existing orders.

Part Three Understanding the Layout
  • Change the Layout menu to select the appropriate
    layout for the type of request you need to make.
  • There are two options
  • Article request
  • Journal loan

Part Four Requesting a New Article or Journal
Loan
  • To create a new request, press the leftmost
    button on the third line of the toolbar ( ).
  • The cursor will then move to the Name field of
    the request form.

  • Fill out the patrons contact information
    completely.
  • For each request, fill out all of the fields
    leave the drop-down menus blank.
  • Click the Submit button in the toolbar.
  • Log out. (See Part Six for instructions on
    logging out.)
  • If necessary, call the lending library to request
    that the item(s) be rushed.

Part Five Checking the Status of a Request
  • Click the magnifying glass icon to switch to Find
    mode.
  • You may now search in any field in the request by
    entering data and then pressing the Perform Find
    button.

  • The status of each article will appear next to
    the request number. Article status possibilities
    include
  • Filled
  • Not on Shelf
  • Incorrect
  • Do Not Own
  • The status of each order will appear at the
    bottom of the request form. Order status
    possibilities include
  • Not Yet Received
  • In Process
  • Completed

Part Five Checking the Status of a Request
  • Please note that, as in the example to the left,
    an order may be Completed though not all (or even
    any) of the articles have been filled.
  • It is the responsibility of the lending library
    to inform the patron if any request is not
    filled.
  • When finished, log out. (See Part Six for
    instructions on logging out.)

Part Six Logging Out
  • In the toolbar, click the Log Out button.
