Making PowerPoint Shows and Saving Them to the Web

PowerPoint Shows

• PowerPoint allows files to be saved as PowerPoint
  files (ppt) or PowerPoint Show files (pps).
• PPT files can be edited
• PPS files can be viewed, but not edited.

Why PowerPoint Show?

• A downloaded show is seen within PowerPoint and
  will have all the formatting such as sound and
  animations.
• Picture quality will be much better than a slide
  show saved for the web (particularly with older
  versions of PowerPoint. Go here for an example
  of both.

Saving a File as a PowerPoint Show

• Select Save As under File and choose PowerPoint
  Show under Format

Name the file. If on a Macintosh, remember to
append the file name with pps
Or select Append file extension
Then click on Save and the deed is done!

Moving the File to the Web

• Use FTP to move the file to the Web.
• Create a link to the file and the file can then
  be downloaded from the Web.
• This can be a useful way to have a backup when
  doing presentations.
