  • May include a Unit 3 4 subject

13
Outcomes
  • Each Unit (Semesters study) of a subject has a
number of Learning Outcomes which must be met
  • There will be a number of assessment tasks used
to test that the Learning Outcome has been
    achieved
  • All Learning Outcomes must be satisfactorily
completed for the unit to count towards the VCE

3 Assessment task/s ? Satisfactory Completion
18
Non-satisfactory Completion
  • As set out in the VCE Rules (green)
  • Work is below an acceptable standard
  • Work is not your own, or you have helped someone
    else to cheat
  • Work is not submitted by the deadline without an
approved extension (computer failure is not a
    valid reason)
  • ?NON-SATISFACTORY COMPLETION OF THE OUTCOME

19
Non-satisfactory Completion
  • Unsatisfactory completion of the outcome means
    unsatisfactory completion of the unit
  • This subject can not count towards your VCE
  • Your final report from the VCAA will show the
    subject as unsatisfactorily completed

20
Non-satisfactory Completion
  • Redemption of an Outcome that is unsatisfactory
may be granted to enable a student to get
Satisfactory for the unit, but the original
grade will still stand. This rule also applies
    in Year 12.

21
Assessment of Unit 1 2 Subjects
  • Satisfactory Completion is reported to the VCAA
    as S or N
  • Internal assessments are reported to students and
parents mid and end of year reports, plus two
progress assessments every semester (these are
    not reported to the VCAA)

22
Assessment of Unit 1 2 Subjects
  • The maintenance of academic infrastructure is
essential. Care taken to maintain laptops, backup
of work done, email accounts is imperative
  • Year 11 students should not favour their Unit 3
and 4 subjects at the expense of their Unit 1 and
    2 subjects.

23
Assessment of Unit 1 2 Subjects
  • Semester 1 examinations are used to
  • consider a students suitability to continue a
    course of study
  • The Year 12 subject selection process starts in
July. Timely completion of this process is
imperative because changing subjects at the start
of Year 12 can be problematic.

24
Assessment of Unit 3 4 Subjects
  • Satisfactory completion same as for Unit 1 2
    subjects
  • Study Score a mixture of
  • coursework (done in class, and assessed within
    the school) and
  • external examinations (mid and/or end of year,
    assessed by the VCAA)
  • A study score is a students rank amongst his
    peers and not a mark

25
Raw study score
  • A raw study score is out of 50
  • Let us say all papers are marked and then stacked
with the highest mark on top and the lowest mark
    at the bottom

26
Raw study score 2

  • All the papers are then stacked with the highest
marked paper on the right and the lowest paper on
    the left

27
Ranks not marks
  • The top ranked student receives 50 and the middle
ranked students (tallest column) receives 30

28
Raw study score
  • By design, 30 is the middle score (median) and
the top 8 receive above 40

29
GAT A statistical calibration tool
  • GAT General Achievement Test English,
    Mathematics and general knowledge
  • Used to check Study scores and calculate a
    derived examination score
  • Held during mid year examination period
  • Every student studying a Unit 3 4 subject must
    sit this
  • It is in your interest to try your best and it
    must betaken seriously.
