Introduction

• Chamber Board of Directors initiated a
  subcommittee to examine the possibility of an
  airport in Oldham County.
• Board was created with a cross-section of
  business, civic and residential representatives.
• Board has spent several months examining the
  specifics of airport planning.

General Aviation Airports

• Small general use facilities open to public.
• Runways vary from 2,500 7,000 feet.
• Light duty planes that shuttle people to
  locations where larger airports are not as
  convenient.
• Include maintenance buildings and hangars.

• Employee a small number of people for maintenance
  and operation.
• Managed by a board of appointed volunteers.
• Supported by related businesses.
• Noise is less than average highway traffic noise.

Benefits to Oldham County

• Attracting businesses to locate within Oldham
  County.
• Tax base of airport itself (buildings, plane
  storage).
• Employment for the county (direct and indirect).
• Benefits of other uses (e.g. emergency services,
  military, etc.)

Feasibility of Oldham County

• Funding Oldham County is only responsible for
  2.5 of the total cost.
• Planning Professional services firms and OCCC.
• Location Land resources are available.

Feasibility of Oldham County

• Management Qualified, experienced and willing
  people are available.
• Support Political, business and community
  support can be found. Additional community
  support will need to be earned through education
  about the issue.

Comparison to Others

• Georgetown, KY airport was created prior to
  industrial growth and is a benchmark of success
  in Ky.
• Gallatin Co. has completed a feasibility study.
• Shelby Co. has decided not to move forward with
  an airport in their area.

Steps to Completion

• Feasibility Study per FAA guidelines.
• Apply to be on National Register.
• Appoint and Airport Board.
• Create a Masterplan.
• Acquire suitable land.
• Complete construction design.
• Construct and open facility.

Airport Boards

• 6 member board of volunteers appointed to govern
  all airport business.
• Specific laws govern creation of an airport board
  and its members.
• Board should only be created once Oldham County
  is informed about the board and their
  responsibilities.

OCCC Recommendations

• A feasibility study should be completed specific
  to Oldham County.
• Create a taskforce to manage the process and
  utilize Chamber resources.
• Advertise for proposals and make a selection of a
  firm.
• Analyze the results of the study.
