Title: Oceanside Middle School Computer Lab Network Orientation

1
Oceanside Middle School Computer Lab /
NetworkOrientation
2
At Oceanside Middle School we have approximately
110 networked computers located in our two
computer labs, the library, the boost room and in
classrooms.
3
  • Students are not permitted to enter either of the
computer labs or use any school computers without
    supervision.
  • Students are responsible for good behaviour on
the school computer network, just as they are in
a classroom, or a school hallway. General school
rules for behavior and communications apply.
Refer to the OMS Code of Conduct.
  • No food or drinks are allowed in the labs!

4
Network Login Your homeroom teacher will give you
a login number and a password.
5
  • The first time you log on you will be prompted
to change your password. Please be sure to make
note of your new password and do not share it
    with anyone!

6
  • Once you have successfully logged onto your
account and created a document that you want to
save, be sure to ALWAYS save to your P drive. If
you do not, you may lose your work.

SAVE TO P
  • Always ask your teacher for permission before
printing and be sure not to disrupt classes who
are scheduled to be in the lab.

7
  • Appropriate Use
  • Physical or electronic tampering with computer
resources is not permitted. Damaging computers,
    computer systems, or computer networks
intentionally will result in a cancellation of
    your network privileges.
  • Students may not download files, play online
games, listen to streaming audio, watch online
video or waste resources such as paper, toner, or
    internet bandwidth.

8
  • The network is provided for students to conduct
    research, complete assignments and communicate
with others.  Access to network services is given
to students who agree to act in a considerate and
responsible manner.  Access is a privilege not a
right.  Inappropriate use will result in a
    suspension or cancellation of internet
    privileges.
  • If you walk away from a computer that is logged
in to your account, or allow anyone to access
your account, or are simply careless with your
password, any activities that subsequently take
place on your account are your responsibility.

9
Proxy Server At OMS we have a proxy server that
logs every site you visit on the internet. Each
week Mrs. Graff receives a report on student
internet usage for the week. Please be sure to
surf responsibly.
10
  • Web Outlook is the email program that OMS
students may use, with their teachers
    permission.
  • Your teacher will provide you with information on
how to log in to your email account.
  • It is very important that you use email
appropriately. Do not write anything that you
would not want your teacher or parents to read.
