    graders.
  • Projects are due on March 23 by 900 am. Judges
    will not score late entries.

Thinking about a good project
7
Select a TopicMAKE SURE IT IS A TOPIC YOU CAN
INVESTIGATE.
Select a topic that genuinely interests you.
?
  • Where can I find ideas for Science Fair
    Projects?

8
  • Watch commercials on TV. Test their claims.

Does that deodorant really stop wetness better
than another one ?
PRODUCTS THAT CLAIM TO BE THE BEST CAN BE
COMPARED WITH OTHER PRODUCTS THAT CLAIM TO BE THE
BEST.
9
  • Think about current events. Look in the
    newspaper.

10
Use your experiences.
  • Remember a time you thought "I wonder what
would happen if..." then turn that into a
    project.

11
  • Check the science section of our library media
    center.

Browse and look at book titles, then look inside
the ones that look interesting to you.
12
Gather Background Information
  • Gather information about your topic from
books, magazines, the Internet, people and
companies. Keep notes about where you got your
    information.

13
What is the PURPOSE?
  • Why is this a project worth doing?
  • Why are the results important?
  • Who would want to know the results?

14
Use the Scientific Method
  • Question
  • Prediction
  • Materials
  • Procedure
  • Results
  • Conclusion

15
Question
  • What do I want to find out ?

16
Prediction
  • What do I think will happen ?

17
Materials
  • What will I use ?

18
Procedure
What will I do ?
The variable is the one factor I wish to change
(or use in different amounts). Everything is
given the exact same conditions except for one
factor. This factor is my variable. I need to
explain things I did to make it a controlled
experiment. Variables are the things that have
an effect on the experiment.
19
  • The independent variable is the one condition
that you change in the experiment. It is the
factor that you are comparing or testing. What
may affect the results of my experiment? Choose
one variable to change and keep the others the
    same.
  • The controlled variables are the conditions
that need to remain the same during my experiment
so that they do not affect the results.
  • The dependent variable is what happens in the
experiment because of what was changed. Its
    what you are observing.

20
Results
  • What actually happened ?

21
Conclusion
  • What did I learn ?

Based on my results I learned
