ACCRETION

addition or accumulation (as by adhesion of
external parts or particles) b the increase of

adjective
Main Entry accretion diskFunction noun a
disk of usually gaseous matter surrounding a
massive celestial object (as a black hole) in
which the matter gradually spirals in toward and
accretes onto the object as a result of
gravitational attraction

In Astrological Terms
  • An accretion disc is a structure formed by
diffuse material in orbital motion around a
central body. The central body is typically
either a young star, a protostar, a white dwarf,
a neutron star, or a black hole. Instabilities
within the disc redistribute angular momentum,
causing material in the disc to spiral inward
towards the central body. Gravitational energy
released in that process is transformed into heat
and emitted at the disk surface in form of
electromagnetic radiation. The frequency range of
that radiation depends on the central object.
Accretion discs of young stars and protostars
radiate in the infrared, those around neutron
stars and black holes in the X-ray part of the
    spectrum.
  • A black hole is a region of space in which the
gravitational field is so powerful that nothing
can escape after having fallen past the event
horizon. The name comes from the fact that even
electromagnetic radiation (e.g. light) is unable
to escape, rendering the interior invisible.
However, black holes can be detected if they
interact with matter outside the event horizon,
for example by drawing in gas from an orbiting
star. The gas spirals inward, heating up to very
high temperatures and emitting large amounts of
    radiation in the process.

Financial Definition
  • Accretion
  • Asset growth through addition or expansion.
  • Accretion can occur through a company's internal
development or by way of mergers and
    acquisitions.
  • In reference to discount bonds, it describes the
    accumulation of value until maturity.
  • Bonds at discount are sold below face value and
mature at par. In the duration between the bond's
issuance and maturity, no additional value is
actually being accumulated within the bond but
accretion occurs with the paper or implied
    capital gain.

Symbolism
  • Gathering of elements gathering place of minds,
    ideas, and creation of synergy.
  • Release of energy and radiating light onto the
    dark universe.
  • Forms around neutron stars and black holes some
of the most powerful objects in the known
universe powered by the inescapable force of
    gravity.
  • Representative of the life cycle of stars,
galaxies, the universe, and other celestial
    objects.
  • Well-being a lifestyle based on balance (of
work, play, relaxation, a balanced nutrition, and
personal growth with the eventual goal of
    achieving self-actualization). Accretion is a
part of a stars cycle of life and death, birth
and destruction, creation and destruction. A
cycle of life which ancient Asian cultures
symbolized with the Yin and Yang representing an
inherent balance of all things in the universe
and in recognition of a cycle in all things that
    exist.
  • In terms of finance, growth of assets through
addition and expansion, internal development, and
    mergers and acquisition.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros Its rife with symbolism, and has much
depth and is rich in meaning.
  • Cons Can be difficult to convey the message
    without extensive explanation.
  • Pros Probably not a word thats used very often
or well known to the public. Its a fairly
unique word, and stands out and should not be
difficult to build an image or an idea around it.
Creation of a brand will be on a blank slate,
not around any previously existing misconceptions
    or prejudices.
  • Cons Word may sound a bit harsh/edgy (not quite
cacophonous, but not melodious either). The
closest sounding word that the public is aware of
is probably secretion, which does not conjure a
    very positive image.
