Every Sentence has 2 main parts.
  • Subject Predicate
  • The friends read some books.

The subject tells whom or what the sentence is
about.
  • The subject usually comes at the beginning of the
    sentence. It can have more than one word.
  • Danny finds a book with tall tales.
  • It has stories about Paul Bunyan.

The complete subject includes all the words that
tell about the subject.
  • The simple subject is the most important word in
    the subject.
  • A compound subject has 2 or more simple subjects.
    They are joined by and or or.

Examples
  • Danny finds a book with tall tales.
  • It has stories about Paul Bunyan.
  • One funny story is about Babe, his ox.
  • This big, blue ox drank a lake every morning!
  • Danny and Ellen enjoy the tale.
  • They laugh and laugh.

  • Sometimes a subject comes at the end of a
    sentence.
  • (Here is my book.
  • There are many books to read.)
  • Sometimes the subject is not named, but you can
    guess who the subject is!!!
