Online Nursing Program
  • Developed in response to critical nursing
    shortage in Colorado
  • 4,500 nursing graduates needed this year to meet
    states demand.
  • Postsecondary institutions statewide are
    producing only 1,500 nursing graduates per year
    (at all levels).

CCD/CCC Online Nursing
  • Online instruction combined with onsite clinical
    training
  • Advanced Placement Program at CCD
  • Second year of two-year AAS program
  • Student must already hold LPN license

CCCOnlineColorados Virtual Campus
  • 3,000 students throughout Colorado and worldwide
  • AA, AS, or AAS degree in 13 program areas
  • 11 certificate programs

How do CCD Nursing and CCCOnline Work Together?
  • CCCOnline provided seed funding to launch online
    nursing using CCD as pilot institution.
  • When students register for a course with
    CCCOnline, they are actually registering at one
    of the CCC System colleges.
  • For Online Nursing in 2002-03, students register
    with Community College of Denver.

Clinical Instruction
  • Students must be able to complete the clinical
    training, which is delivered in the Denver-metro
    area during 2002-03.
  • Beginning Fall 2003, community colleges in other
    areas of the state may offer the program with
    clinicals arranged in their local communities.

  • Began January 2002
  • Key players included CCD Dean of Health Sciences,
    CCD Nursing Faculty, CCCOnline COO, other CCD
    administrators.
  • Met with Colorado Association of Associate Degree
    Nurse Educators - April 2002.
  • Hired Online Nursing Faculty Coordinator - May
    2002
  • Course Development (3 courses) - Summer 2002
  • Program launched - September 2002
  • Ongoing course design/development - fall 2002
