Benefits of Oral Fluid Testing
  • Immediate Results
  • Non-invasive collection
  • No blood, urine or hair involved
  • Gender is not an issue during collection
  • Bathroom facilities are not needed
  • Reduces downtime
  • Detects presence of pharmacologically active drug
    at time of testing
  • Can not be adulterated

CSS Test Inc.
Oratect III Training Introduction
  • Oratect III was developed to detect active
drugs-of abuse present in saliva (oral fluid).
  • Oratect III is a one-step lateral flow device to
be used as a screen for on-site testing for the
    following drugs
  • Amphetamine
  • Cocaine
  • Methamphetamine including MDMA (Ecstasy)
  • Opiates
  • PCP
  • THC (Marijuana)

5
CSS Test Inc.
Oratect III Training Introduction
  • The test is intended to be administered by a
    trained test administrator.
  • It should not be used without supervision.

6
Oratect III Precautions
CSS Test Inc.
  • IMPORTANT At least 10 minutes prior to
administering the test, instruct the individual
not to eat, drink, smoke or chew tobacco products.
  • The test device should remain in its original
sealed pouch until ready for use.
  • Do not use the test device beyond the expiration
    date indicated on the kit.
  • Discard the test device if package is ripped or
    torn.

7
CSS Test Inc.
Instructions for use
  • Verify that the expiration date has not passed.
  • Remove the test device from the sealed pouch.
  • Carefully remove the blue cap by holding the
sides and gently pulling. This will expose the
    collection pad.

8
Oratect III Training Device Detail
CSS Test Inc.
  • There are two major device regions
  • The collection pad
  • The test window

9
CSS Test Inc.
Special Attention
  • The device should be handled by the donor only,
once the test has been used.
  • The donor should not touch the test windows.
  • The donor should not put their mouth over the
    test windows.
  • The key to using this test effectively, is to
insure an adequate amount of fluid is available
from the donor to be collected and tested.

10
CSS Test Inc.
Fluid Stimulation
  • Have donor open their mouth and rub the surface
of the collection pad inside the mouth against
the cheek in a circular motion 20 times.
  • Have the donor repeat the procedure against the
opposite cheek in a circular motion for 20 times.

11
CSS Test Inc.
Fluid Stimulation
  • Donor rubs the collection pad on top of the
    tongue 20 times.
  • Donor rubs the collection pad underneath the
    tongue 20 times.

12
CSS Test Inc.
Fluid Collection
  • Donor should place the collection pad (face up)
under the tongue to collect a sufficient amount
    of fluid.
  • While test is progressing, donor should hold
their head level and the device level.
  • Instruct the donor NOT to CHEW, BITE, BEND or
    SUCK the device.
  • The device should not be placed in the mouth
    beyond the delineation line.

13
CSS Test Inc.
Performing the Test
  • If there is no flow to the BLUE Line indicator
after 30 seconds, repeat fluid stimulation steps.
  • Remove from mouth as soon as the BLUISH lines
become dark. Cap the device with the blue cap and
lay flat on a surface to allow the test to
    process in a timely manner.

14
CSS Test Inc.
Test Completion
  • If no pinkish-purple fluid appears in the test
window after 30 seconds, reinsert the device and
    repeat the fluid stimulation steps.
  • Remove the device from mouth as soon as the
pinkish-purple flow appears in both channels of
    the test window.
  • CAP the DEVICE with the BLUE CAP and lay the
    device on a flat surface.

15
CSS Test Inc.
Read Results
  • Lines usually appear in about 2 minutes.
  • Read results 5 minutes after donor removes the
device from their mouth. (up to 30 minutes)
  • The Control lines (C) (also called BANDS) must be
    formed.
  • Any presence of a colored line at a specific
test region indicates a NEGATIVE result.

16
CSS Test Inc.
Example of NEGATIVE Results
Arrows point to negative results ( i.e. lines
are present at AM (amphetamine) OP (opiates) CO
(cocaine) as well as the C (control) line which
must be present to be a valid test Note the
absence of the lines at TH (thc-marijuana) ME
(methamphetamine) PC (pcp)
17
CSS Test Inc.
Positive Test Results
  • The absence of a colored line at the test
region indicates a PRESUMPTIVE POSITIVE result
    for that particular test only.
  • The control line ( c ) must be present for the
    test to be valid.

18
CSS Test Inc.
Examples of Presumptive Positive Results
Arrows point to drug results that are presumptive
positive (i.e., There are NO lines present at PC
(pcp), TH (marijuana), and ME (methamphetamine)
and the C (control) line is present to validate
the test.
19
CSS Test Inc.
Example of Invalid Results
The results on this test are invalid because both
CONTROL lines (C ) are missing even though other
test lines are present. The test may be invalid
on one side only. If this occurs the side with a
visible control line is still valid for the tests
under that control line.
20
CSS Test Inc.
Read Results
  • Important Read each test independently. Do not
compare color intensity of one test to another.
Samples with faint test lines should always be
    considered NEGATIVE.
  • The test line for THC (marijuana) may appear
more faint than other test results. Do not
interrupt the intensity of the lines.
  • DO NOT read results after 30 minutes.
  • The Oratect III Oral Fluid Drug Screen Device
provides preliminary or qualitative drug test
results. For quantitative, analytical results or
for a confirmation of a presumptive positive
result obtained by the Oratect III, a more
specific alternative chemical method should be
used. DC will use laboratory urinalysis Pls
    refer to procedure.

Oratect III Storage
  • Do not open pouch until ready to perform the
    test.
  • Devices should be stored between 59 and 86 F.
  • Never store the test devices near a source of
heat, such as windows or heaters.
  • Under NO circumstances should the test be used
beyond the expiration date, noted on each test
    pouch.
  • The average shelf life of test devices received
    is 12 months.
